I could use direction on area's to look at. The further away from water, the hotter it will be, muggy in summer. Right now I found a couple of places on line around Roberts, north of I-20. It is yet early, for now getting an idea of what is passable. The good part of inland a little the better on surviving hurricanes. It is not if but when. Flood area's is another concern. I do not want to buy a house then have to have it lifted 8' in the air. I know how expensive it gets. Not only by sq-ft, but the construction of the house. I did designed a home for some people that tried to left their house on stilts, to find out the structure was Swiss cheese. Dry rot, old termite damage, and pure construction. It was built cheep and fast for post war. When the time comes, I will be putting my house on the market. When it sells I want to be ready to buy ASAP, I will not want to buy something I will not be happy with.
Yes, I have been to Louisiana many times. I worked as an over the road truck driver, liked what I saw and the people I met. I had my eyes open to were I wanted to live. It is the south, and Louisiana is the state. I wish to live in the southern half.
What I love to do is fish, hunt, and in-joy the outdoors. Chickens and a garden are important, I love dogs and all animals (except monkeys). I am against killing anything, unless I'm going to eat it and I am protecting myself or mine. In protecting mine, depending on the situation warning shots is a wast of lead.
I love to eat good food. Sadly I no longer can eat hot foods but on occasion I will in-joy slightly spicy. BBQ pork, slow cooked, the wood and rub is the key. Shrimp, all I get here is bait, and frozen shrimp, enough said. There is fresh fish, salt and fresh, all kinds all different tastes. My favorite is small drum stick size cat fish. Crab, I love carb, and crab cakes. Everyone makes them differently, some are fantastice. I have had them from New England to San Francisco.
The openness of the people. Don't care past, only the present and if you are there if needed. Who you are is more important. I like people that if they have something to say will say it to your face, and work things out first. If I have a problem with a neighbor I have always done that, and they have always been cooperative. Most of the time unaware of load music at 1 AM. If there is a big party, my neighbors, in the past have come to my door and told me of it, if it would be ok. Of course, it is ok. One night, if curtesy of asking.
I need to fish, garden, and have my chickens, and maybe a little wild boar, venison, and rabbit, and a few I meats that I have never tried. Oh, and people do not look at you as being strange or afraid of you, if you have a few guns. I would like to be around people that enjoy the same thing as I do, people to hunt and fish with, and eating what we catch or hunt.
