"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I can say that I am VERY lucky to have all of my chickens this morning. Me and my husband were not at home and I didn't think to put the chickens up before we left because it was so early in the day and the sun was shining so nicely so when it became obvious we would not be home before dark, we had my mother-in-law go over to put them up before dark. Well she doesn't know everyone like I do and didn't do a proper head count. By the time we got home it was dark and my husband didn't notice Fern missing when he checked on them either. When we let them out this morning we found her, wet, cold and grumpy squeezed between the coop and the tarp we wrapped around it for extra rain/wind protection in the bad weather. I would have been devastated to lose my Fern.

Oh thank goodness she was ok!! I think she needs an extra treat for that experience!! I've learned that there's nothing quite like an indignant hen.

Somehow you know EXACTLY what they are thinking.

Whew. I've had those scares before. Not fun and lots of guilt. I'm glad Fern is okay.

I need help.
I need some Mill suggestions. I want grain in bulk next fall. Hubby wants a feed in bulk til then also tho due to limitations we have on storing one whole ton of food at a time. We found one a bit far away and it broke down to about $12.50/50lbs 18%. But had to buy a Ton, literally 2000 lbs. ( I'm a newb humor me and laugh while I explain to the experts :gig )

So anyone want in? Lol No really where do I Go?! I've tried feed stores/Tractor supply/called on this One mill for the above minimum lbs and cost...are there more places? Google is only helpful for the feed stores (more popular maybe? Lol)

What type of grain?

The first year the chicken yard included a big oak tree, I thought: cool! The chickens will stay full on all those stinging caterpillars. Nope, they won't touch them and I couldn't use any chemicals bec the tree is in the chicken yard. Fooey!!
I got stung hard by one of those years ago & I still have the scar to this day.

or dribble dribble squirt dribble squirt :he  then when your all done(or think you are) you can sometimes still get another couple of dribbles or a squirt or two when everything is done and put away :ep  LOL so a lot of that time in the Lou is the making for certain :/  things are all through and over with ;)  LOL
this is what its like the feeling of acomplishment :yesss:

Those moths you're seeing are breeding and laying eggs that those spiked black oak tree invading flagstone staining evil OUCH caterpillar creatures I get 10s of thousands here like an army late spring. :(

I thought so I did think of snuffing some of them out. Pam

Well my boss (who is off this week) just called & told me I could take the afternoon off, so off I go! I’m going to go fix my broccoli and rice casserole, bake a coconut cake, and enjoy being at HOME! Ya’ll have a good one!

OK recipe:

Broccoli Rice Casserole

2 cups cooked rice – cook it in chicken broth
2 pkgs chopped broccoli, cooked & drained
1 stick butter
1 pkg velveeta (16 oz)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
A little onion & garlic powder
Slap Ya Mama or any Cajun seasoning.
Ritz crackers

Mix the rice & broccoli together in a large bowl. Simmer the velveeta, butter & soups together until cheese & butter is melted. Add a little water if it’s too thick. Mix this into the broccoli rice & season to taste. Sprinkle crushed ritz crackers on top. Bake in a 350 oven for 45 minutes.

Easily doubles. Freezes well.
It’s better if you make it the day before & then reheat at 350 for 30 minutes

Hopefully there won't be a next time but if there is...take scotch tape stick to stung area pull out any stingers then put on emu oil. Yes it works for catapillers too. I know this one from experance. Pam
