"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I have had cracked eggs before, and this is just my persona experience talking - but the ones I have patched with things such as wax, polish or glue never make it but I have had almost every cracked egg I did not patch hatch and make it. I have one due for lockdown in 3 days that has been cracked since it was laid.

I just watch them very closely to make sure they stay alive and show no signs of bacteria or death.

I wish carpentry was on the list of things I could do. I'd have a lot more done if I could.

I'm no duck expert by any stretch but with that poof I'd say crested duck (OOOO, keyboard almost made me type a naughty word instead of duck.) or crested duck cross. Indian Runners stand up very straight.

It looks like Amanda has more paint on her than your shelter. Gotta love it there so easily entertained when their young! Pam

Thanks for everyone's nice comments on my shelter. It was my first sort of big undertaking, I would like to build a potting shed with windows, door and porch, but need a table saw first.

Haha about Amanda. She loves to make a mess. The whole time she was painting (she started with a brush, but shortly switched to her hands!!) she kept saying,"I love to paint." Here's the foto of when we painted the plywood a good bit before we started the shelter.

We finally finished the chicken shelter today. Amanda helped with painting the trim. Guess what color the trim is.

I put lattice on the side that gets hard sun in the summer.

At the apex of the roof is a painted metal wreath that says "Welcome" and has a turkey on it that wiggles.

What a nice job. It looks great. You and Amanda should be proud of yourselves.

The result of my Dominique Hen and Blue Copper Maran Roo, I think I like him! His legs are feathered, but hard to see from all the mud, my yard is a mess from all the rain.. And the ducks aren't helping.

Sorry, couldn't tell you the first thing about your duck other then it's a cutie. Spring of '12 my daughter hatched a dozen pure mallard (captive) eggs. Hatched out the prettiest little black and yellow mess-makers. All were slick headed except one. Every feather on its head stood straight up like this birds. From the moment it dried off from hatching till the ducks moved on at about 1 month those feathers were up. It was the cutest little duck you'd ever lay eyes on. We like to look at ducks but my daughter said ducks were 1 and done. They are messy. Happy New Year.

Just curious if there is any interest from the LA Lay-ers. I've been corresponding on the Capon thread and did the procedure on two young birds a week ago this past Sat. Both birds have recovered well and never really missed a beat. Seeing how young roosters are always available for free, including this thread on BYC that is ad after ad of free roos. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/16182/animals-in-need-of-free-re-homing Would there be any interest for a get-together to discuss and demonstrate the lost art of Caponizing??

Great looking bird. I hope to get some Marans mix to add to my lil flock of misfits soon. Maybe I'll find some eggs this spring to put in bator
