"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

That's awesome! Good job! (i knew Louisiana would have me praising bug growers and wishing I was one too! Lol ok, I had NO idea...:gig )
But Nor did I think I'd be married with kids and be a farmer 6 years ago when I met my hubby online and we got married 6 weeks later lol so I should know better I suppose lol
I've been toying with a worm bin but haven't had the time. Come spring we are overflowing with these black worms and earthworms...maybe I can just scoop into bins of compost in spring lol tada!

Wow! Can't wait to hear the whole story.!! Pam

I was in Connecticut staying with family, he was in Massachusetts 2 hours away. We met on OkCupid...neither looking for a long term thing lol 5 weeks in lol he said, Let's go get married Thursday...I said sure! Wasn't a bluff! Hehe and here we are now...happily ever after 7 years later.

Plan for me was to leave CT tho, hate the cold with a passion and 5 months outta every year there was EW. So we packed up and went South. :) Had a cpl rugrats and working the land lol funny is we are a family of 4. Each of us born in a different State. North, South, East and West lol
Ok. How did you meet on line? Were you still in Cali then? Amazing what life brings around.

Walmart has a sale on cabbage right now, $0.10/lb. I now have 210 pounds of it and need to start cooking/canning it soon. Only spent $21! I usually pay between $3-$4 a head. While I was checking out the nice cashier told me we have a soup kitchen in town that likes to cook with it so I went back and got more so I could donate it.

Good deal!! So nice of you to go back to get some to donate!! That's good karma! Pam

I have insulated with dry leaves (huge amount lol) covered gaps on coops, blocked doors (they're wire/pvc and wire n wood doors so we put a board to block the wind.

Should I put my layers (3) in with the meaties? As far as size they're about the same but the meaties are heavier but on the ground and my layers roost up high. The hoop coop holds heat in the roof better than the layer coop. And the meaties produce a lot of heat helping that...will it be so cold my ameraucanas might not make it?!
I thought for a moment to do that (put them in with the meaties) but didn't figuring I never worried before. Now, I'm scared for my Blue layers! Doh! I've made errors with cold tolerance before :(

For adult birds, how cold would you add a little heat source?

It depends on the breed some can handle it better than others. If you goggle your breed you can find out. Sometimes they only need their comb protected. By covering with Vaseline . You don't need to worry for pea comb. Pam

I think I'll put a little heat out there tomorrow. They get no draft and there are blankets on three sides under a canopy. I leave each coop open a little in the front, but they're still under the canopy and tarp. Primrose gets a thick layer of fresh pine shaving that she makes a nest with and the other 4 (2 to
400
each coop) get thick clean newspaper on the floor.

400
