Hi, this is my first post. Thank you everyone for your posts because it's really helped me get this far. Got my coop ordered and food and bedding lined up. I'm thinking I might start with young poulets but don't know where to look. Have had my eye on craigslist. I would like mixed breeds to get to learn about their differences. I'm only wanting 4-5 hens at most. BTW I live in New Orleans, LA

Hi! And Welcome to BYC . Thank you for joining us. We are a fun and CRAZY group but we are harmless. At least some of us when we don't have matches. Any hoo, jump on in and have fun with this bunch. I wouldn't trade them for NOTHING - well maybe for a Llama or Ostrich but nothing else.

Sounds delicious!!! Made copycat Wendy's chili for lunch; fried catfish for supper. It's still only 30 degrees here! c-c-c-c-cold!!! if Jim's family sent this snow down for his birthday; they can take it all back now!!

I needed that foto again. Bahahahaha. When I went out after dark with hot water to melt waterers and lock them up, the 2 Amercaunas were bundled by choice with the black stars in the BS coop. Prim of course was by herself in the dog kennel. I normally move the Amercaunas to their coop but left them this time so they can warm each other. I hope they're not pecked up in the morning. The BS's do tolerate the Amercaunas even though they are the babies and don't tolerate Prim who was my first. Oh, well. I still haven't used heat but I check them often and the water in the coops wasn't frozen. Gave them layer and corn. With the consistent sleet, I felt a little like the frozen beard man. Bunnies are fine. Everyone got extra hay. Bunny water wasn't frozen either.

Then I broke the dam'd cut off valve on the well pump so tomorrow I will spend the better part of the day fixin all that crap then do the normal everday chores ....again LOL(not)! Did get a shower tonight before I cobbled up the well pump tho thats good at least I got bathed first LOL

After the stink eye this morning, my girls took to the snow quite well. I found them roosting more often on things in the yard (assume to warm their feet) but they were able to dig some pretty good sized holes to get bugs. The chicks decided that they were going back in the coop and on snowless ground only. Everyone was warmed up and happy near dusk.
