I went tonight but I didn't see anything I wanted. Whoops, I mean, I went to buy a heat lamp bulb.
Some guy bought 24 RED pullets. There were A LOT of ducks. That's the LAST thing I need. Many of the bins were not labeled. That was scary. So I quietly exited. Will go back tomorrow though.
I was very disappointing. There was only a handful (20 maybe) already sold pullet chicks and like 6-8 ducklings. Poo.

On a side note, is there a black chicken that lays blue/green eggs? They look like black australorps, but lay green/ very blue eggs. Are they just easter eggers? There are five or six of them, and I was wondering what they were.
Oh no, I am so sorry about your tom. I'm not sure what happened, but it's good that your neighbor is stepping up.
This is great news- I know how worrisome it is when shipped chicks are late arriving. How are the weak ones?

I've had an exhausting couple of days. My husband was injured in an accident at work and burned his right arm when a paint recycler machine spewed out boiling paint. We spent hours in the ER with no one being able to figure out how to remove the paint from the burns. They finally sent him home with lots of meds and an appointment with the burn center at the BR General today. The people who treated him there were amazing. They debrided the burns and said that because he immediately immersed his arm in cool water, he prevented the burns from progressing to 3rd degree. They wrapped him in some new type of bandage that is infused with silver meds and stays put for a week. They said it significantly speeds healing and there will be a big difference when they remove it. Such good news! I still haven't slept, so I'm about to call it an evening.
I spent a few minutes with my turkeys today for some anxiety relief. I just love them!
If you look closely you can see the 2nd hen peeking out from behind the others on the right side.
I love that the hens strut sometimes too! They don't let the tom outshine them.

It's never to late to learn. I love your determination. It's nice to see people wanting to learn more. Keep up the good work.Ha! Unfortunately, I'm one of those that grew up knowing Diddly Squat. But I'm learning and trying and getting better. It's all in the raising I guess. I was a city girl until 17 then helped feed cows, lift hay and walk fences. But not from 18-60.You go girl. And I applaud you for being able to doing everything that he could.Not tooo many of us around anymore. I"m proud that you are able to do all of those things and you don't rely on a "man"..
You would think that a man would be proud AND honored to know and to say that his wife/partner can do all of those things but some aren't. I don't get it.
I work with some women who can't do DIDDLY SQUAT! I am so embarrassed for them. I don't understand how that works.
And the sad thing about it, they don't want to learn how to do anything. All of the females in our office (except 2 - me and another girl) can't change a tire to save their souls. They have to call their husbands or someone else to come and change the tire. Heck, they can't even check the tire pressure in their tires with a gauge. Now, I know that is not "common" for most women to be able to do but c'mon ladies. Years ago, a co-worker's husband died and she said the strangest thing. She said that she has to learn how to do everything because he did everything for her. I was like, "HUH. What does that mean?" For some odd reason, I thought all women knew how to do "minor" things to their vehicles and other minor repairs around the house. I guess I was raised differently. My father taught me how to change a tire and check oil levels, water levels, put in antifreeze change the oil in a car at the age of 10 years old. The older I got, he showed me how to change brake pads and few other things. After my father retired from the military, he was a plumber/electrician by trade, so he taught me how to change faucets, a toilet, etc. I guess that's why I loved being with my father all of the time because he was always doing things that I considered "fun". While my sisters were inside doing their hair, nails and toes and make up and shopping, I was outside learning a trade. I thought that was normal but I was shocked to find out that is wasn't. Men say they love an independent woman but when it comes right down to it, they are jealous and feel insecure. Now don't get me wrong, it's very nice to have a husband to do all of those "manly" things but again, c'mon ladies, don't depend on him to do it all. That Is why I always encourage people to learn more and do more. When I see someone doing something that I can't do, I want to learn how to do it, so I ask them to teach me or I teach myself. But that's just me. Learning = Empowering yourself. Hats off to you for being a single mom and making it. Keep up the good work.
Back in the country again and learning over. This year will be my first chickens, first garden. I do know how to can but haven't in 15 yrs. So starting over. It WILL be an experience. :yiipchick
