"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

SO>... all my crazy pals... i grabbed my notebook to jot down all ya'll's advice. I actually have already stocked up on pallets, so that is gonna be easy... plenty of leaves, and poop etc to have a go.....
BUT I have one problem, pine straw is everywhere... for some reason, i think i remember reading that is not good in my gardening mulch... is that right????

Poop from the out house???????????? Like poop poop? Like Human Poop?

Yes, used up until indoor plumbing was standard in most of the country for farms and still used today in some parts of Alaska. Third world countries with water shortage also use it. The outhouses were used for a year then shoveled out onto the ground and let sit in the sun for a week. Then they would spread it out on the plots and till in. They usually did this about a month before planting time.
Exactly. Letting it cook, the bad. Stuff dies off. Fermented fish and other foods. The same thing,

I am looking forward to the soil conditions there. Here we have a lot of caliche here in the law desert. It is clay and minerals and can be as hard as 9,000 PSI. 1 fence post hole, it took me almost 6 hours using a hand sledge and steal 1" chisel. It is 18" deep and 8" across. That spot was all caliche. It dose not drain and take on water like a rock. This is my garden the first year. I must have downloaded and erased this year photos.

This year I added more compost and it is much darker. My tomato's are on average 5-1/2 ft high using a vertical garden with my T-frames. Composting is very difficult were I live, in the low desert. At 115 degrees it is to hot and dry. I will post a pic of my tomato's after I take it one. I have 480 sq ft. raised beds.

Here's the full text of a study done in Thailand using EM in water and to ferment feed for ducks and broilers:

http://www.infrc.or.jp/english/KNF_Data_Base_Web/PDF%20KNF%20Conf%20Data/C5-5-177.pdf

And another done in China on reducing odors from chicken poop using EM:

http://www.emro-asia.com/data/106.pdf

Both of those were quite good. But I really liked the China one. I bought EM-1 on Amaz w/ free ship prime. $35. But it will last me over a year or 2. I can use it for composting, amending the soil and refreshing the coops as well as for my fermented feed. This is day 5 of my bokashi make up. 10# rice bran, 4 T molasses 4 T EM-1 and 10 cups filtered water. I put it in a big pan to hand mix. Turned out like mortar. Then I put it in a black trash bag and got out all the air I could. Close tightly for at least 2-3 weeks. It will be fermented earlier since I'm in the south. Then on a sunny day spread out on a tarp. Let air dry for 3-4 hrs. It's ready. For the feed I'll put 2-3 handfuls in a 5 gallon bucket to add as starter for grains, feed and water. 2-3 days and it will be ready. For the liquid em you add like 2/3 c molasses and 2/3 c EM to 1 gal of water. Stir and sit for a couple of weeks. Then to make AEM you add 2-3 T molasses and 1/3 c of made up em in the gallon jug. Fill rest of jug with water and sit for another couple of weeks. This AEM you have made is used in place of the bottle of EM-1. You can make up more than 100 or more gallons with 1/3 cup each time you do it. Molasses is $7 gallon at the feed store. I bought a 50 lb bag of rice bran for $8. Way cheaper than wheat bran

Jennifer if you don't want to invest in EM-1 I'll be happy to make up some of the AEM for you to start on. Just need to buy rice bran and molasses. We'll talk.

My garden bloomed it's best after Katrina I think it was all the humanure. Sounds gross but it was true.

:gig    Yes, I do believe it.  Humanure has been around for a long time.  I think we are just about the only country that doesn't do it. Europe does certainly.  It's the ick factor.

food for thought: there is a deadly intestinal bug. it is becoming resistant to our antibiotic. We have a good bug naturally in a healthy gut, that has and still dose, kills the bad bug. In Canada a company makes human poo to grow the good bug. In experiments, putting the home grown good bug (poo) in people's colen that have unchecked bad bug, will kill the bad bug 100% of the time! plus side effect of leaving a healthier colen. BUT! We can not use it in the USA because it can not be approved. You can not put poo into the colen of a sick or healthy person. (Of course this is overly simplified)

Consuming raw organic honey on a daily basis will do the same thing. Dose is 2TBS a day under 145lbs and 3TBS a day over 145lbs.

Wouldnt even know where rice bran would be. Ya'll gotta remember I have over 50 to feed... so i dont know. It is all really confusing... trying the FF right now but seems I may have started a little wrong, so some repairing will have to happen. THEN, if I am successful with that, another project will come...
Starting on a few new quilt pattern ideas, then DH fathers garden will begin soon... HE has the BEST dirt ever. Best tomatoes I have ever eaten, never liked them raw before his! Then the purple hull peas, there's just so that grows there! One day tho, ima convince him to lend me a spot of earth to plant what i want. Greens for starters.....
