Was yesterday a full moon??? I swear I thought I was in the wrong chicken yard yesterday after work. From the time I got off from work until after dark, there was nothing but chaos running a muck in the yard. It is definitely breeding season for my seasonal laying critters. And the fights to see who is going to be the Top Dog in the yard are horrifying. I had 4 turkey fights going on at the exact same time. I had 2 sets of toms fighting, 1 pair of turkey hens fighting and a turkey hen fighting my biggest rooster. I would try to break up one fight to get to the next fight but it was too much for me to handle. They were going under the raised coop, so I was trying to crawl in under there to separate them with no luck. The worst fight drew blood, so I had to pen one up but the other found him and was trying to fight him through the fence and caused more blood. So I said to heck with it and let them battle it out while I was there, so I could at least supervise the knock down drag out fights. I thought to myself, if I wasn't there, then what would happen. There wouldn't be anyone to separate the fight and they would have to work it out anyway. I hate to see them fight but I know it's part of the breeding season and rank.![]()
After that, I found a chicken that had cracked open an egg and was eating it right next to me.Terri, you sent those vibes over to my place and I don't want it. I grabbed her butt and but her in time out. I have her butt locked up until I can decide what I want to do with her.![]()

Shortly after that a customer dropped by to buy 6 hens because a dog killed his flock. As I'm talking with the customer, I notice that his eyes got real big and his mouth opened. So, I turned around to see what he was looking at and my youngest copper maran rooster had mounted a muscovy hen and was breeding her.He was speechless and could not believe what he was seeing. His words were, "Is that rooster on top of that duck." I was like, "Uh yes. Sorry about you having to see that. That rooster was raised with ducks as a chick and he lived, slept on the ground and ate with the ducks, so that's all he knows. So, that's why he is breeding the duck." I was so embarrassed.
The guy said if he wouldn't have saw it for himself, he would not have believed it. He complimented how healthy, big and beautiful the rooster was. I told him that I will either have to re-home him or process him because he will hurt the ducks because of his large size. The guy said that he would love to take him but my rooster was too big and if he bought another rooster home to live with his rooster, my rooster would probably kill him. His rooster is about 3 years old and was not as big as mine. I"m thinking I won't put chicks and ducks together next time.![]()

So after he witnesses this unusual breeding, the then sees this same rooster take out after a turkey and try to fight the turkey. After that tight, this same rooster takes out after a goose and tries to fight IT.I don't know what had gotten into my copper maran rooster but enough is enough!!!![]()
So after he leaves, another customer shows up to buy chicken and rabbit fertilizer and eggs and he got attacked by Satan's army (the geese). He gets out of his truck and starts walking towards the chicken yard and I see him running around in circles. I immediately run out of the chicken yard to see what was going on. Well, lo and behold, the geese got after him and he was trying to get away from them. Why me?![]()

So then it has gotten dark and I'm still outside filling the waterers up for the broilers. All of a sudden I see all of the ducks that were sleeping on the ground take out running and start flying. The ducks that were in the trees and on top of the chicken house take out flying and the ducks that were still in the yard take out flying as well. I don't know what spooked them but to see about 100 ducks flying all over the place was VERY scary. All I could do was duck down so that I didn't get hit.Reminded me of the movie, The Birds.![]()
So next thing happened was that there was a creepy looking truck driving up and down the road VERY slowly. He turned around a few times but kept creeping along. Not sure what was up him but my cameras caught him riding back and forth. After I shined my light on him, he drove off and never returned.
And the broilers are now attacking me for food. Seriously? They're that hungry?![]()

Do you have any signs that say you have cameras up? It could discourage "creepy trucks". Hope it was a one and done thing.
I think I would have paid money to see you hit the ground when 100 ducks took off. Hmmmm....We might have to start doing "drive byes" of your place....could be very entertaining.
