Ok guys. Prim is not moulting. I gave her a close look and her feathers are broken off close to the skin in multiple places. Her crop is red. It is soft and feels normal. Her eggs are still soft. A couple of times she went in the coop with the big girls at night and I let her stay. I think they ganged up on her. I've seen them do it. She's not bleeding and has no broken skin. She's thin. I'll keep her separate, even during the day, I can put up a temp fence. If I get another RIR pullet, is there a chance it will pick on her too? Should I get a chick and spend time helping them bond? I was thinking a docile pullet. What do you think? I really love that hen.
I would get a few RIR chicks and put her in the brooder with them so they are with her from the start. Let her teach them when they go outside for the first couple of weeks after they all go in the coop in their own yard. They will learn her coop and her being the head hen. It doesn't always work out that way, but more often then not it does.
oh no! Sorry to hear of the attack. Chicks are quick, darty play toys. Instinct probably overwhelmed bad bucky into Chase mode and a chick cant really take too much of a nip. Chicks have a different smell, look and size than he's used to, maybe introduce him to one in hand with someone holding collar and dog for a sniff and correction if need be (if aggression or too much excitement is shown due to chick)

Now, I have to find metal shelves to put all of this stuff on. :/
