I do not have a plan for that yet. What do you suggest?
They did give me a refund. I've never seen any advertisements for chicks at our feed stores, but I'll call and see.
So sorry, Sweetie, Angelicisi can know how you feel. I have lost most of the Basque and Coronation Sussex eggs. I do hear a little cheap on the SBEL's. They are 9 days ahead. My candling skills are wretched so I'm just waiting. This is day 20![]()
Kimmy, there was discussion on this thread last year about not shipping in the summer. It's such a risk. Maybe wait until fall if you want a breed that you can't get locally.
Terri, I'm so sad about Myrtle. What a wonderful loving full life she had!! That was one lucky hen. My chickens are my pets, too, and they will get great care until they die naturally. I will be so sad when Prim goes, she's always been my favorite.
I used to let my chickens free range the whole back yard. That just lasted a few days!! Lol. They dug up huge bushes, desciminated a huge amount of ferns, killed all my potted flowers, it was not good. Now they have the whole side yard as a fenced chicken yard and the gardens are fenced in.

I'm going to be trying your screen trick soon! Wondering what's best to sprout fast...bird seed is fast but I think contains a lot of millet. Thought I read millets not that great for them, not sure. Haven't gotten far on the project yet. I did collect 2 large bread trays so far, built out of plastic, easy to clean, looks like flattened milk crates. Flipping them over my fresh seeded garden protected my veggies while sprouting this year so I assume do the same in the chicken yard and move them along the fence, spiral in and they'll always have a few patches...if I can keep up lol.
