"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I'm about twenty minutes south of Baton Rouge. I do travel around a little bit.

You can still find chicks at feed and seeds mine has black sexlinks white leghorns and easter eggers. I would think you could find the last orders if you do it soon. The chicken wisperer said http://www.cacklehatchery.com/page25.htm has a chick sale. if your looking local I'll keep my eyes open but most people are done hatching due to the heat. Pam

Oh I meant peachicks from peafowl! When you said breed I thought you were referring to the India Blue and the Green variations. I have too many chickens already.

Cochins, silkies, old english game bantams, barnyard mixes, rhode island reds, blue copper marans, laced wyandottes. Not to mention all the turkeys and ducks. I'd be put out on the street if I bought any more.

Sure am ready for the weekend!

On tap:

put up more pickles
put up more snap beans
put up 2 batches of wild plum jelly
Read-read-read (got 3 more books in a new series I just started & love -- Knights of the Black Swan by Victoria Danaan - paranormal romance thing, pure mindless entertainment)!

One of the silly hens ended up spending the night outside last night. It was just POURING down rain -- thunder, lightning - a real gully-washer - and I pulled on my mud boots & ran out to close the coop for the night -- well, this silly thing would not go in the coop -- she was over in the old peacock pen -- so after I almost slipped down in the mud twice I just left her out there - I knew she could get shelter in the peas' shed & figured no predators would be hungry enough to go after her in that weather. She was OK this morning, met me fussing at the gate. Maybe she learned her lesson (but I doubt it).

I just went home for lunch & Jim told me he found piles of feathers this morning -- something got 2 of my guineas. Now all I have left is 2 males. They've been roosting high on the top of the peacock "roof" so it was something that climbed up there. I will be setting my trap tonight...
