"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

You can order from Amazon if you have prime and get free shipping.  I didn't .   ha     I ordered the Pro series 4200 Farm Innovator.  Flemings has them.  I ordered through them and got the set up with fan and egg turner and shipping for $133.  I could have gotten the same thing with my prime through Amazon for $119.  So worth it though.  Buy one of the water wigglers and  buy a digital temp w/probe.  Lay the water wiggler on top of eggs and put the probe in the middle and it will give you a more accurate temp.   I keep it set on 100.  I can't candle worth a dam so I just do the best I can.

I think the one I'm looking at all of that is included it has a container thats extra that holds water. all the temp and humidity are automatic. If I don't get the extra peace the humidity is digital but I'll have to add water manually if needed. I'm thinking with our high humidty that I don't need the extra tank. If anyone has this brand I'd like to hear your pros and cons. Pam

Welcome Chuck! You will love chickens!
Hey everyone from Louisiana. I have a spot in Benton and am planning on getting a few "girls" for some wonderful fresh eggs.
Trying to gather as much info as possible ffrom those who have already learned through experience.
Have gained much knowledge so far and am sure there is much more to learn.

Hi Angelicisi, I am anxious to get started. Of course much work lies ahead but I am picking up a tremendous number of tips from the folks here who have already experienced some of the pitfalls that I have yet to face.

I will stay close as I jump in to a new endeavor.

Thanks for your response.

Anytime you have a question jump right in this group is amazing and has great ideas as well to get you through tough spots! I am a few years and a few hundred chickens in and still learning! I feel as tho we will forever be building :th so my only tip is after you decide how big your chicken digs are...double it :gig even if you're only planning for 2 hens like we were! (Oh ya and watch out for chicken math!)

I would go for the bare bones with turner. The fan comes with it. I leave the air plugs out to keep it from being too humid. I'm going for 30%-45% until hatching. I add maybe a Tbls if it gets into the 20%'s Once you get it to the 99-100 degree mark on both thermometers don't bother it again. How much is the one you're thinking about with shipping?

Had a great morning, got to examine each animal on the property! Hard feat for me in a day lol but I like to check each creature out and give them some love while making sure they are healthy and injury free :)
All were doing awesome, love it when there's no issues!

Prim came by for a swim and we boiled up some hard to find mudbugs (whoulda thought crawfish were hard to find in Louisiana? 6 places and finally found some!) Had a great time, good company, good food and not working for a few hours :bun

I didn't get during and after pics! Phone was MIA for once but didn't need it :) Poor Prim was bombarded by the kids :lau you'd think they never saw another human! They had a blast!
And now daddy and the kids are in a giant dogpile of a nap lol.
I went to go check on the chickens and after talking smack about how they're slacking on the laying I go and see 4 eggs and one is a new one! Garage chicken laid an egg! Well someone did and it pure white so I'm assuming! The top 3 are my known layers and the bottom one is a new layer :) :cd :bun now pullets are "play nesting" :) so I'm thinking I should soon have many more!

it's 159 . I have a coupon for 10% off that expires today plus the 159 is a sale price. Normally 40.00 dollars more. Pam

I had a blast. How does a northern boy become such a great crayfish boiling expert? I love playing with the kids. Angel has the cutest, sweetest, funniest, smartest and well mannered kids around. What a joy. The pool is beautiful. It's just like family.

. PS I came home to one egg. Since I've been feeding them back eggs to bump up protein, I'm actually low on eggs. I'm usually giving them away like crazy, but not right now.
