I am thinking 10 to 14 if all are laying by then and then a month later the next 19 should start laying, and then a month later the next 9 and after that the final 24 rescues, i think my #s are right. No, add another 4 EEs Thats counting the hen prospects, i think 2 or 3 of those are Roos, I do know for fact that i have 6 Roos out of all them and probably more.

HaHaHa funny, My wife is off today and her plan is to sit on the front door steps on the carport and watch to see which hens go on the nest, it just so happens you can see all ten nests from the steps, I think she is beginning to get excited about the chicken adventure almost as much as i am, although she has wanted chickens for years, she hasn't been very excited till now.

Three duck eggs today!! That means all of them are laying!

I candled a bunch of eggs in the incubator today. I have about thirty from my own birds, plus thirty three that were a gift from someone else. Only two of my eggs were bad, while only 7 of their eggs had development. I hate to see that.

We did some more work on the cage today. We're still working on it right now. We finished the roof and added hardware cloth to two sides, as well as boards along the bottom for added stability. We're working on doors right now.

Hey guys...I need a little advice! About a month ago a friend of my husband was having to move from his house in the country and was trying to rehome his 40+ birds. He had a little bit of everything and he really wanted me to take about 5 of them, hens, 2 EE and 3 red stars. I really couldn't get more than two without crowding up the coop so I took the two EE's. One he said, had just started to lay and the other was "a little younger" but he was not sure about age. Well after a week in her new home the EE started to lay again....light brown eggs . Man I really wanted some blue eggs....anyway the other EE was growing along really nicely and you could tell it was young but again, I was not sure of it's approximate age. It looked so small compared to my big wyandotte girls! Anyway...today my husband swears he saw the small EE mount one of my wyandotte girls. He said she did the squat and it jumped on, squawking ensued, feathers flew and it was all over in about 2 short seconds. LOL. So my question is this....at what age does a roo ( if indeed it is) display this behavior? We haven't heard a crowing yet. Thanks!

Could you post a photo of your EE? Mounting is a dominant behavior, so both hens and roosters will do it. Young chicks will even display the behavior. I can't comment on the wyandotte hen squatting, because I'm not sure if squatting also occurs in dominance driven behavior or not. But a picture will definitely clear things up!
