We got 23 eggs today, one super large and Donna says it is between a purple and a brown, probably a freak of nature, the only ones old enough to start laying would be 1 of the 2RSLs that haven't started or  BSL or DOM.

When one of mine first started I got a few extra large they turned out to be double yolkers. Pam

Oh, that was an old picture from may, not a sprig left, but it can be moved to the side and toward the back to have new grass and to allow for the bare ground to recover some growth.

Just seeded my screens with rye grass under the screens for a nice green winter snack.

Hello all. Just joined up and saying hi to folks in LA.

Was hoping to get some input from others in my area on coop design. Possibly meet with someone to see their setup to get some ideas.

I'm wanting to start out raising Buckeyes and eventually build a flock up to about 50 birds for meat and egg production.
I'm ready to start building a coop and run. I plan on letting the birds free range as much as possible.
I'm in the Ruston area.

Hey Cody, great to have you. I'm out of Shreveport. What you need to do is research the top of the page and Search for hoop houses. That's great for our weather. Covered in clear shower curtains in deep winter. My set up is not much, 6' tall dog kennel 8' x 12' and covered in tin. Wrapped in fencing wire. Not chicken wire. Still lost a couple of birds to small predators. I'm buying the Walmart 1/2" hardwire cloth 3' tall for $58 for 50'. Then just rewrapping in that. Our weather is so good that you don't need a big wooden coop. Four poles and wire covered in hardware cloth and topped in tin. Safe and easy. Keep in touch so we know what you are doing. Especially the Buckeyes.

Yeah, most of the extra large are 2yolkers, what is striking is the color, probably black sex link, they are due to start, looks like I will be checking vents when I get back in oct 2nd.

The best thing about using dog kennels for runs is the options you have when needing to enlarge the run, just add top rail and slide the wire along the top rail, then add the need amount of wire to cover the gap, mine has gone from a 6'x10' kennel to 34'x 40' , plus I can scoot it from side to side back and forth to take in fresh grass, it only takes about 10 min. to shift it.

Well my eggs haven't hatched its a bummer. I'm going to give it one more day. I think when the bator got unplugged it must have been off too long. Now to collect eggs again.
