Thats where I buy my feed is at Currie & Son on Broad in LC. I go through the same amount, I'm down to 32 chickens (for now lol) and go through two sacks every two weeks. I mix one sack of Lone Star Lay Pellets with on sack Lone Star Conditioning mix or instead of conditioner mix I use Atlas Thunder Bird, they both have whole grains in them. I like dealing with them and there like two miles from where I work.

I'm so glad to hear that's what you feed because that's what husband came back with, also from Currie & Son. :/ He's not a very good listener when it comes to the chicken supplies.

Oh well.

I'll try to make it there next time. I literally slept this whole day away. Now I just feel grumpy.

@LaDoodler , do you get your feed in LC? We usually get it from the TSC in Moss Bluff. I'm going to try that feed store on Broad today.

I think I need to switch to pellets. We went through the whole 50 lbs of crumbles in a week with only 15 chickens. Better feeders would help, too. We just need a few changes all around.

Oh Sweetie, I had 37 at one time and didn't use 50# in 3-4 weeks. I ferment their feed and it's so great. Money saving.

I bring the labels from my feed bags. I let people know they are organic free ranged eggs on land that has not had any chemicals on it for the 35 years I've owned it. They aren't ceritified by a third party. I don't know where that lady shops but I go to whole foods twice a month. Organic free ranged eggs are 6.99 a doz. I sell mine to a co-op I use for 4.00 a doz. I'm having trouble meeting the demand now. I added 5 new hens but none or laying yet. I guess I'll be filling the incubator up. Those organic eggs are 6.99 at rouses tone of my new hens is the red sexlink. Wait till you add colored eggs for sale my customers like the colors too.Pam

I use recycled cartons. After my customer brings me 25 cartons .I give them a doz. eggs or a bar of my organic soap.I am in the process of getting stickers.I'm not labeling the certified organic I'm just showing them my feed and telling them how they are cared for. The customers at the co-op know what they are eating because they see my feed when I pick it up and bring their eggs.If I had a Petrus I would buy feed from them as long as it's no GMO,soy and corn free. Studies show the phytoestrogens from soy are in the egg. Soy is not the health food it was once thought to be. I forgot to give you one of our bowls for your wife we make. Hopefully when you visit your son you will stop by. I get about 5 to 6 eggs a week from the legbars. Yes its totally normal after a move to miss laying for a little while.But I hope she gives you a suprise tomorrow. Pam

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and live in heflin, la - between shreveport and monroe! Does anyone have any leads on a tom turkey? I have 2 hens (we named one jerry lee that we raised from a chick - oops - he laid an egg lol) so now I need a tom to have some babies in the spring!

I don't know that you have to prove eggs are organic in this state. I DO know that Inglewood sells their eggs as being "organic" -- well, their hens are free ranged on organic pasture but their feed is laying pellets from Petrus - at least, that's what they fed them when I worked for them & I don't think that's changed.

Two hens with pox are looking bad. One has got wet pox, too. Going to spend my afternoon doing some heavy cleaning and medicating.

Oh! By the way, I never mentioned that my egg tray went for $10 at the silent auction. And I didn't buy it back! Nothing went for even close to value, though. It's just impossible to make money from 20-somethings. Next year I'm going really focus on bringing other folks in.
