"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Need ideas for a solution!

The chickens have invaded the garage to steal the cats food. I have six (neutered/spayed) cats for rodent control. All sweet gentle cats that even Gus, my hundred lbs weimariner allows them to eat out of his dish with him. Well apparently, Nevile the jungel fowl, blackie the brahma mix, blue another brahma mix, and Milo and Otis, my EE roo's have led their flock into garage when they are let out to free range. I don't know about any of you, but chickens and garages do not mix. My poor cats , I have had to resort to feeding them from one bowl, due to them chickens surrounding them. Smokey my oldest tom, stands guard swatting at them while the remainder eat scarfing their food down. Poor cats, something has to give, I have to feed them before sun up and after sundown or they have to constantly fight for their food.

Any suggestions, I tried the water hose, I tried standing guard running them off....im running low on options, feeding them at 5 am is getting a little old, and im an early bird going to bed at night!

Whew! Just finished catching up on four days of posts lol. This is how I discovered our egg:

I went back into the pin midday to clean out the poop catcher and change their water. I found the egg in the coop, covered in poop. I ran back into the house to show my daughter. She was so excited and wanted to hold it! I washed it off and let her hold it. She wanted to go to my neighbor's house immediately to show him, because he asks her every day if any of her chickens are making eggs yet. I told her to wait until I finished refilling the water and cleaning the coop poop. I came back inside and found her in the kitchen screaming and crying. She was holding a goopy mess of shell and yolk. She had wanted to hold the egg while I was outside, so she took it off of the counter and dropped it. She was devastated. I used it as an opportunity to talk about how fragile eggs are!

I'm glad I got a pic before the "incident." She wants to come out with me tomorrow when I feed them. Hahahahahahah

LOL... that is one lesson your daughter would never learn in school. I can tell by your post you are a good mom to your flock and your daughter

Milo and Otis!!! My husband used to watch that movie over and over when he was a kid!

Yes, I have a suggestion! Do you have a little dog kennel or anything? You could put the cat's dishes in there. When you feed them, close the door behind them and let them eat. Then open up the door and let them out when they are finished.

Oh Sweetie,  I had 37 at one time and didn't use 50# in 3-4 weeks.  I ferment their feed and it's so great.  Money saving.  :D

Ladies, and Gents, got my computer back early.  Sooooo happy.    :celebrate

I ferment feed too! I've just started, maybe three weeks now, I have pellets in the coop at night and give the fermented feed first thing in the morning. I have 23 chickens and 20 ducks so they go through a fair bit of food. I'm hoping the fermented feed helps with that!
