I am still in the research process, I am going with a fully automatic one, with my 14 on and 14 off schedule, I need one I can load and set and walk away from for 14 days, with auto timer, turner and day counter, being lockdown is on day 18, I would be able to remove turner and lockdown eggs on day 18 with no problem, I am currently looking at a build kit from Incubator warehouse that has all the required parts other than the turner, so right now I am still un-decided which way to go

I found a cabinet bator listed on craigs list. Drove to Monroe today to look at it. It was a older model GQF in rough shape. The guy wanted 300.00 for it. Way to much for the age and shape it was in. I don't know what did or didn't work on it. I found posts on the forum where these sold for 200.00 4-5 years ago, working and in better shape.
I think I'll hold off for now.

You might keep an eye on the La. Market Bulletin - I saw a cabinet incubator on there a couple weeks ago. You can view the current issue online.

I don't have anything to contribute to the incubator talk, so here's a picture of the whole gang. :cd

If I built one from scratch I'm afraid I'd have over-easy and scrambled eggs.

Most of you know I wanted some Buckeyes. I contacted a fellow in Alabama yesterday whom was on the breeders list. He no longer fools with the buckeyes and was supposed to have been taken off the list. Apparently it is out of date. He has been breeding for 40 yrs. He was very helpful and spoke with me for quite awhile. He suggested breeds to start out with such as wyandottes, welsummer, lang shire, barred rock, dominecker, barnefelder, Delaware, brahamas for meat specifically. French copper marans he highly suggested because of the color of the eggs. Said people go crazy for them. What I got most out of the conservation was on the buckeyes. He said they aren't all their cracked up to be. At least the line he had. Said you have to be very careful to get a good bloodline because they've been crossed too much with RIR's. The birds he had didn't lay well. I'd read online somewhere that a lot of folks tried/try to turn a buck off the name and don't have good lines. Anyway, I think I'm giving up on this breed unless I can get a direct line from somewhere like Jeff Lays birds. But that is another story. I tried contacting him again by phone and email and I get no response. Why have a website with your contact info if there is no intention of replying to inquiries. Do folks just not answer their phone this time of year. I tried breeders in Florida and California for Dorkings and got no response either.

Are you making any headway with the sick ones?

Yes, thanks for asking. I finally got a tube to give fluids to the pullet that Pam was helping me with, and I've given her 1/2 cc of tylan for four days. I really think the water (with vitamins and electrolytes) saved her. After tubing every fours hours for a day she was much more alert. After half of the second day she was absolutely devouring her food. She has one last dose of tylan, but I went ahead and put her outside because she was too active to stay in the shower. She's gained three ounces back in the three days since I weighed her last.

There are a couple of others who I think are good candidates for the tylan, mostly for their eye problems. I can't even get one open to flush and medicate. I have just enough time to start and finish the tylan before we leave for Thanksgiving.

Everyone else is great. Most have lost about half of their dry pox scabs, and only one still had wet pox. :celebrate
