"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Another before/after, this is my FBCM pullet.

400

My rooster has it the worst but I'm thankful it's dry pox. My ointment seems to be helping. Hoping the rest don't catch it. Pam

Do any of y'all ever have a problem with poop on the eggs? Somehow, poop always gets on the eggs. Even if I stand next to the coop and grab the egg right after it is laid.

Our eggs are SO much cleaner now that we use these nesting pads. The nest pads are plastic and are easy to clean.

I think it helps keep the hens feet clean also. It kind of works like a boot scraper, when they are scratching around on the nest pad before they lay their egg.

I know how you feel, number 8 caught it. My BTB Maran. Im running out of beds in my sick ward. So far I have been able to catch them on the fist symptom, glassy eyes. Thats when i start the meds. By day two on the meds, they start showing mucas from the tear duct. Day three the mucas has dried up, and I have a few small bumps, Day five the small bumps turn black but don't grow anymore.
Day sick, they look and feed great, but the black bumps are still there.

My BLRW Rooster looks like he is ready to go back out to the flock....But I think ill keep him till day 7 in the sick ward. I do not want any back sliding.

I hope your Roo does better, mine made a drastic swing to the healthy side the faster I've gotten to them with the meds. Looks like I have a task ahead of me, cleaning out the coop, and sanitizing it. I do not look forward to that on my day off..

Hope everyone else is escaping the Pox...Only good thing is they wont catch it again, and it s only Dry Pox.......Good luck everyone..

What meds are you using?

So I guess you sent the pox my way? :barnie Went out yesterday my Rooster went from nice dark red comb. 24hrs later covered in black spots. I have a salve I make for porisis. It has all anti inflamtory oils, butters, and essential oils. So I decided to give it a try. Its dry pox so I took a Q-tip and put it on all the scabs. Then I worried all night wondering if I did the right thing. When I went out to day to see if it helped and to see if anyone else had it. I has happliy suprized to find all the scabes were half the size they were yesterday. I have two other hens that have it but only one or two scabs. I did some reading on how contagious it is.If an infected chicken drinks while it has the scabes and backwashes in the waterer it can infect other birds. Their poop and dander are contagious too and can stay that way up to a year. So to morrow I'll treat again. Been washing wateres every day with 10% bleach and water. I'll be gone all day tomorrow. So just treat them and clean the warters. Wed. will be clean and disinfect coops. It's three chickens in two different coops. I'll try to keep my other two coops from getting it. Someone asked me if it they could get it from their chicken, the answer is no you can't. I hope they shrink in half again like last night. Pam :sick

Hope it clears up! Let us know what your remedy is! I had one rooster die from wet pox, poor guy! But everyone else looks good. What are the pros/cons of the fowl pox vaccine?

Since my marans coop is most infected I am useing corrid 12% for prevention only for secondary infections

I start with 1 tbs corid n gall water daily for 14 day
Neosporine on the sores and around the eyes 1 x day 7 days
1cc or 1 ml Tylan 200 orally 1x day 7 day

I started this from day one when I saw mucas , they all made a complete 360 in 24 hrs. My BLRW was the first he only has one black spot left on his face he's on day 7 and ready to go back to the coop

It's working with my birds. All the birds that I caught quick during the firs symptom of glassy eyes and mucas all look like they are not sick! If I didn't know the truth and hadn't medicated them you would say there is nothing wrong with them! Only 3 of the 8 have pox bumps the other 5 the bumps are gone after 3 days of medicating it did not spread the three that still have bumps I hot to late
