The directions in my incubator say 99.5 You we're told 101 on the froum? Does this increase hatching? Pam

I was reading the general guidelines on the forum and it said 99.5 for the forced air and 101-102 for still air. Of course, practical experience is always better than the general guidelines.

My instructions are really vague and just suggest keeping the temp in the correct range for egg type. But the thermometer has a specific marking for 99.5, which is why I settled there first.

I have been running about 101 plus or minus a degree. It kind of freaks me out if it goes to close to 102. But those people that wrote those directions on the forum are way more experienced than me. My first batch when I got the incubator was a big bust because I followed the directions from the box and used the included thermometer and ran at 99.5

Mine has a fan. My first hatch got unplugged so I was suprized any hatched, 2 did. The next hatch I hatched half of the eggs in the bater which I thought was low because they were my own eggs not shipped. I think experence is the best teacher. I'm going to go up to100.5 and see if that helps. I haven't had to add any water the humidty has been 35 to 39%. I read a little on that thread after campingshaws post. Thanks for the advice. Pam

Well after our power came back on last night during the storm, I decided to candle our eggs since the temp was off anyway. They have been in 5 days, so I knew the likelihood of seeing anything want high, but it looks like all but two of the eggs are good! That is if this first time candler got it right! The candler came with the incubator which was a bonus!

Mine was fixed. He stayed on our property he loved catching mice and rats too. Let him out onr morning never came in that afternoon. Now he's gone we have coyotees,bob cats that have beed spotted in our area. He wouldn't have run off either. Pam

I love our kitties! One is an old 13 year old tabby, she mostly stays inside and the other is a two year old adoptee. Calli the calico is a great hunter and although we didn't want her when she arrived on our doorstep she had been great for the family. She comes in when is really cold out, but our Shephard thinks she is a toy and loves to play her. Cats fault, she played with rogue when she was a puppy and is now a bit overwhelmed with doggy play! Lol! But she helps keep the move down, I really hope she does not become a meal for some critter out here!
Found out yesterday the neighbors dogs are responsible for eating 4 of my ducks in one night! Last Friday night I couldn't get them in from the pond and when we came out the next morning 4 were gone...including my two best silver appleyard hens! The neighbor boy confessed that his dog was found with one. ..

Mine is a still air. Sorry about your ducks! That it's always hard.

Pam that is great that some hatched after it got unplugged. They are more resilient that most people imagine I guess.

the latest report from my wife is that all is good, inside therm reading 99.5/100, humidity 42%, dry hatch, now on day 15, will candle Thursday nite if i make it in, if not i will candle when i get home, she has done a good job monitoring the hatch, this time next week, i hope to be posting pics of new chicks. If only the 6 WL eggs hatch then it will be all worth the trouble, those are from her adopted girls, those 2 girls are the friendliest of them all, they fly over the fence in the morning and free range, when they get ready to lay, they fly back in and go lay in the nests, then right back out they come, when Donna sets on the porch to smoke, they come to the porch and visit with her, a couple days ago, she was sitting on the couch near the door, she glanced out the glass door and they were both standing there looking at her, she named one Linda after our busibody neighbour because she is always snooping around and the other she named Hellen, slowly but surely she is converting to Chickenanisty, she does a great job of taking care of the whole flock, gives me an egg report every night when we talk. had 27 from the egg crew and 7 from the blu/green crew yesterday, CL, Hazzel is laying 5 to 6 eggs a week, we discovered George the CL roo, was blocking her from the feeder, that is why she quit laying for almost a month, after separating her to the tractor, and she got her health back, she has been doing great., Donna has 35 unwashed blue/green eggs put back in cartons on the counter for the next hatch, or for sale as EE hatching eggs depending on success of this hatch.

Merry Christmas everybody! & Best Wishes for 2015!
Hope they let us off early at work.

I walked into the utility room & turned on the light this morning & the chicklets all started running around & one let out a very loud "YEEP"! & flew right over the top of the box & ran to me. So - time to move upstairs to the big brooder. Right now I have a laundry basket over the top of their box. The little heathens are sure growing up fast!

My parents have been married 59 years today. I think it's quite an accomplishment. They got married Christmas Eve & the day after Christmas, Daddy shipped off to Ft. Benning, Georgia. The Korean war was on.
