My New Years resolution is no new resolutions and to give my wife more credit than she asks for dealing with these chickens, she is wonderful and is becoming more involved, she baby sitted the bator for 2 weeks while i was offshore, 3 of her 6 WL eggs hatched, so now she is a breeder as well I just thought i would drop in and let y'all know i am still alive and share some pictures of my 1st hatch Day 19, this little bugger started the party early, FBCM X EE/OE # 2 #3 Barred Rock over White Leghorn #4 FBCM over Silver Ameracauna, my favorite, Chuck Yeager the test pilot About half the hatch here. Todays egg gather, i am slowly but surely getting there, now we have 16 little fluffy buts, can not wait to see the feathering on these new ones.

So I walked into the guest room where we keep the incubator just to check on everything, and it was unplugged! I'm not sure for how long, I think the dog was walking through and tripped on the cord as she was walking by. It's the only thing I can think of that happened. I checked on them the previous afternoon and all was well and then the following morning when I found the problem. Think they will be okay? I'm not really wanting to candle them at this point, because I'm pretty sure I won't be able to tell if anything is going on or not...and in supposed to put them in lock down on Tuesday. What do you all think?

There is a Facebook group called Marans fanciers and if you post the pictures there they could tell you. Bev Davis pays on there quite a bit as well as other well known Marans breeders. They are very knowledgeable too.

I think I'll just wait. Last time I posted a question there I got a decent rear end chewing by a crabby know it all. One of those kind that you are pretty sure they need to go take their hormone pill along with an anti bully dose to wash it down. I know most aren't like that, but I'm getting pretty confident this is a hen. It's not like I HAVE to know now anyway.

Most conversations I read there are very professional and constructive.

Plug them back in and let it stablize, too hot will kill the embrio, getting cold slows down developement if they didn't get plum cold you should hatch some chicks. Good luck, saying a prayer for your eggs

That is what I did, so hopefully we get an OK hatch! Luckily the incubator seems to hold the temperature very steady. Would you hold putting them in lock down a day?

If it was me, i would, and be sure to pull your vent plugs if you have them, let them eggs get all the oxygen you can, may have to watch the humidity until you go to lockdown, i wouldn't let it get above 30 % if i could help it, i just finishe dry hatch and mine ran 40-42 % until lockdown, had a decent hatch going till i let the humidity get up to 80 + before i caught, i think that drowned most of the ones that didn't hatch, look through this tthread, i think every body should https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101

Okay, just pulled the vent plug. My humidity had been running between 20-27%. I decided on trying a dry hatch as well. I'll check on the thread! Thanks for the info! I've been reading on here every chance I get!

The exact same thing happened to me on my first hatch. Keep going I ended up with 2 hatching that's better than none. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Pam

I'm dry hatching this time too. As for humidity you don't want it to go under 30%. I candled my eggs. I think I'm going to break down and by one. Any way with my LED flash light the air sells have expanded in the legbars and Bielefelders I could see dark mass. The AC I guess because they are light eggs I saw good air cell growth and veining so that made me feel good. Pam
