"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Camping, so I guess they had no problem hatching. We were speculating on the size of the air cells a few days ago. Did you have any eggs that made it to lockdown that didn't hatch. Any die in the shells? That is a great pic. :)

I have three left in the incubator. I candled last night, looking for internal pips, and I thought I saw a little movement in at least one egg. Maybe not, though. I'll give them all of today (day 23) and maybe even tomorrow.

The six that hatched came out perfectly. Very clean eggs, fully absorbed yolks. One dragged around an umbilical cord for a few hours; one still has a tiny black string hanging down, so I'm assuming it's the same one. I'm just leaving it alone.

They were too hot over night, so I dropped the brooder temp to about 80 and they're all much more lively, now. If they start acting cold I'll move them closer to the lamp.

Even the puny red one is considerably stronger today. Everyone is the picture of health, except for the one wonky leg.

I took some videos of the hatch. I'll try to get them uploaded later for you. :)

I'm new here, and new to chickens (since August).

Pam calls me the "chicken hypochondriac" because I always think they're sick. I buy from auctions and sale ads, so I'm usually right.

I have a flock of 14, mostly Speckled Sussex, with orpingtons, australorp mixes, and mystery white hens. I just hatched 6 biddies for the lady up the road, my first hatch!

I'm in LeBlanc.

Well, one of my chicks has a wonky leg. At first I thought it had curled toes, but after struggling for 20 minutes to make a shoe I sat it down and lifted it with my finger underneath the keel. One leg planted firmly, and the other hovered in the air. I've seen pictures of the chick "wheelchairs" but wanted to get opinions first? It's still walking on its knees, like they all were yesterday. The rest are on their feet and have been since last night. I gave it overnight, hoping that since it was one of the last to hatch that it would strengthen up, but now I think I need to intervene.
Do you have any pictures?

Bugglesmommy, hello, I would be new to you, I am from Jena and have a problem with chicken math, I cant count high enough to get as many as I want, I have about/ close to 100, many are olive eggers and blue layers for my hatching egg program, Welcome back

I thought my chicken math problem was bad. (# vs space available) Until I was reading a post by a lady that said she had CUT BACK TO 400 FROM 700!!!

Guess I don't have a chicken math problem.

Kind of looks like its putting weight on the left foot, but not the right. Right? And maybe something is off with the right leg or hip. I've read of people putting chicks like that in a small tea cup that will keep it in an upright position. Maybe someone else can give you more advice. That is what I would do for a day. Get it into more of a supported correct position and see if nature takes over with strengthening muscles.

A teacup is a great idea! It's pretty mobile, but I'd rather it not be disabled. I saw this, but I'll try the teacup first:

Edit to add: I was just talking to my friend in NYC & mentioned I am once again developing a fairly bad hatching addiction problem & she said "it's just middle-of-the-winter-have-to-find-something-to-do" syndrome. OK I'll take that excuse!
