"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ok. Final iteration:

Like a sling, so its legs can hang down. Through the hobble, so it can't jump out. Still under the heat lamp. The basket is so it doesn't roll around (or off) the counter. Seems cozy. Right now it's keeping its legs pulled up, but hopefully they relax.

This has been the highlight of my day; watching this process evolve. It's amazing what us crazy chicken people do for their birds!

Lunchtime announcement went PERFECT. Jim was happily showing me a pic of our house on Google Earth, complete with him on the lawnmower. It was taken on a Sat morning, because further down the road you can see all the cars parked at Inglewood's market.

So, I casually said, "Oh, by the way, I have some more hatching eggs coming. More Rhode Island Reds. These are from Duane Urch lines & I heard a rumour he's retiring so I was very happy to get my hands on them".

"OK".

Perfect. Now tomorrow I can tie in the fact that I happen to have some Blue Australorps coming also, since as long as I'm turning the bator back on, I may as well fill it up.

"Chicken Logic" at it's best!

When you can't decide between two different breeds just do what we all do, buy them both and two more breeds just to be sure. ;)

Of course lol I'm looking at Ideal's website. With shipping and all that I can get bantams at my budgeted price, which equals room for more chickens than if I went with regular sized chickens, which equals a larger variety of breeds we can get at once XD How's that for chicken math?! LMBO

Red and White Feed Store!!!!!!!! The feed store near Churches Chicken and across from the dollar stores and Steeles. He will order chicks for you from Ideal WITHOUT gouging you and you won't worry about paying for dead chicks or shipping. You just have to meet a minimum number or price. I don't remember which but it's not high. Also I wouldn't buy chicks from TSC when they come in. Last year me and everybody else in this region who did had chicks dying of a mystery illness taking our own hatched chicks with them. The chicks from Red and White always come from Ideal and have never been a problem.

Well Little Pip spent some time in the cup, then went back to the others. It immediately stood up, so progress! They still pester the tape, but Little Pip is getting really good at hopping away on one foot. So hopefully this improvement will continue.

Good to know thanks. Though I live in Opelousas two hours from there. We have a swap show at the TSC here (outside) once a month. Everyone brings all kinds of things including animals. Might check it out this month but again haven't started the coop yet :( My friend has a large flock also so she said she would help me find some chicks. Her flock is entirely free range organic so I know she'll steer me in the right direction :)
