Y'all. I'm having the BEST time at this conference. I think I've mentioned "the camp" off and on in the past, and what I mean by that is a summer camp and retreat facility. My family lives and works year-round at one of three Methodist camps in the state. The conference here in Georgia is for the directors and staff of EVERY Methodist camp in the COUNTRY.

It's so refreshing to spend time with people who are spread across the states and still facing the same praises and problems as we are. And one of the greatest things I've learned is that SO MANY CAMPS HAVE CHICKENS. I went to a workshop today about "farm-to-table" in the camp setting and learned about a facility that raises their own produce, beef, and pork. They feed up to 300 people a day and do not use ANY packaged or processed foods. And it started with a tiny vegetable patch.

So (pending a conversation with our various inspectors) this summer we will be adding chickens, garden beds, and compost to our summer program. SO THE SECOND COOP IS BACK ON THE FRONT BURNER. I'm going to donate my non-SS (two australorp mixes, two orpingtons, four whites) to the camp as a laying flock. To sustain our camp egg needs I will need 4-7 more hens.

So I immediately thought of you guys, and wondered if anyone would want to donate a hen or two for our camp. We're a nonprofit and I can give you a tax receipt (if you want one) or I can pay. And I'll travel.

It's just a thought. Sorry if this is inappropriate or offensive. I'm just really excited to have a mini farm (lifelong dream) and to teach kids about where their food comes from. I won't have time to start with chicks and still get eggs this year by the time kids and staff come in (last weeks of May), so adult hens would be my option for this year, or I could wait til next year. But I know you guys take good care of your birds and are good quality.

Of course, this is all hinging on my talks with inspectors. Y'all feel free to pm me if you have any questions about our camp, or this new direction we're moving in.

Can't wait to see pics of the babies! :D

Donna gets most of the credit on this one, she is really becoming quiet the chicken lady.

I sold some more chickens today that were extras. Now I just need to wait and see if a few cockerels pop up. I am not keeping ANY large fowl roosters!!! I can't wait to see how these blue chickens turn out. They are looking good. The Blue copper Marans hen is so gentle and friendly! Even though she had to stay out in the barn she still wants to come and have a visit with us when we go.

Most of our Juvie chicks.

Some of my best childhood memories are from the Methodist church camp we went every year for 5 years. Pam

My chicks didn't come today they will be here tomorrow. I pray they all make it in one piece. I'm not good at waiting. :fl

Ok great! Thanks Pam. I can definitely tell a difference from your pic. I've got 12 chicks so far, females and males. :)

What time frame did yours hatch in? Day 21 was today for your eggs. My first hatched last night and the rest are still hatching.
