"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

CODY:  I think your so attentive for a first timer!  I am not a newbie and still make mistakes, which of course I just made another... poor early pipper drowned....  but a huge thumbs up to ya!!!

Pam: I will NEVER be a star of any kind except to my kids... BUT I LOVE being a part of history in my own background artist way. SO, yall be sure to look for my ugly mug on Hank WIlliams Sr. movie called I SAW THE LIGHT, as well as the tv show on WGN Salem 2nd season which will start early April.  SUPPORT IT CAUSE I WANNA WORK!  LOL

LINDA: expect a call soon since I am in the mood for a visit and lunch partner!

SO, advice needed.
We are moving to an established property. Three chain length dog kennels side by side.  A fully enclosed, two 8x10 rooms, tin sheet roofed, floor covered in hay building I can also use. THAT is the existing set up I am going to be working from.  Tips people, anything I may need to remember to do before moving my babies there since our predators will be tripled they can no longer free range so that is also something I wont like but the one acre garden will suffice for a natural diet.  ANYWAY, remind me of what I may forget to do or not do.  ALSO yall may rememeber I ADORE hardware cloth so reinforcing with that will definitely be happening.  Pics to come soon....

Congrats on the new place. You could be the next Meryl you never know. Lol!!! I would add the nipple watering system, we bought the nipples to 5 bucks in the brooder we use it on water bottles. In my big coop We bought pvc and elbow etc and made our own like the ones they want 60.00 for on the internet. We also added a cabnet for meds and feeds First aids etc.

Hey TD. What's the significance of the chicks pictured coming out of brown eggs?
Congrats again on your great hatch.

Warning!!! Graphic picture below.

Well ya'll my first hatch is over. Out of 62 shipped eggs I wound up with 24 Bielefelder chicks.

Pam (2013 Import)....Males=4 Females=3

Coastline(2011 Import)....Males=9 Females=8

Day 23 today, this chick pipped yesterday and started zipping out this morning. For the record I didn't try to assist this one.

It had no problems getting out but it died not soon after. It looks like the yolk is not fully absorbed and there's some sort of tissue hanging out also.
The liquid in the egg carton leaked out while the chick was zipping. There was an un-hatched egg in the space so I couldn't see that there was any drainage happening at the time.

Congrats on the good hatches!

I had a chick born w/some of the intestines (or something) hanging out once.

I filed a refund request with Ebay yesterday & within minutes, the seller contacted me & wanted to know did I want him to send me more eggs or refund my $$. I told him I had to go ahead & set some other eggs I had waiting so I had no room in my bator now so please could I have a $$ refund. He immediately complied; was very nice & apologetic for the eggs getting lost - which was the fault of USPS because the tracking clearly shows they left his place all right, then got lost in Chattanooga, TN. I did leave him a good rating because none of this was his fault. His Ebay name is sellingsport - I would not hesitate to do business with him again - he was honest & quick to respond. Maybe later on I can get some more of his Blue Australorps & try again.

I know you would have rathered your eggs but I'm glad you didn't have any problems getting a refund. That's a greT person to deal with. Pam

I'm glad you had good numbers from my eggs. I'll be curious to see the difference in the two lines. Was the legbar a poullet or Roo ? Wish I was closer I'd take a roo off your hands from the other line. I've been reading about finishing a roo to make them taste better if interested let me know. Pam

well congrats on all the new hatches everyone...my chicks are going crazy...also don't beat yourself up about the hatch rates everything plays a factor...time of year, inside the incubator outside the incubator....just make sure your doing the incubating in the same place and make a log on the month and some temp and humidity readings inside and outside of the incubator...as well as your hatch rates...and as long as your doing this and thru ought the years your getting better rates then you are doing great....I was told in winter if you get a 50 percent hatch rate your doing great..especially in the Midwest...well just got done with worming the peafowl for their second batch...and am looking at getting another 8 peafowl....so well see what happens
