Feeling a bit like a chicken failure this morning. Supposed to sell my first dozen hatching eggs this morning, but I only ended up with ten. I contacted the buyer yesterday and they're still willing to drive for the ten. At the point I feel so bad I might end up just giving the eggs away.

I did a quick candle last night and tossed the egg with the blood ring. The other 17 are rocking right along. So, I feel good about the hatchability of the eggs I'm selling. Only Day 10, though, so a little early to declare a good hatch.

Think of the word of mouth if you gave away your first eggs. Go for it!!!

I did. ;) I figured it was easier to overcome a reputation as a softy (and cultivate it into generosity) than to be known as hard nose and stickler. I told them to let me know how the hatch goes, and I hope they will.

I got the last two SS eggs around noon, so I guess they're the first two of my next dozen. :D

Morning, all. Hope everyone can stay dry today. I managed to sleep in AND get my chicken chores done before the rain started.

My feeder is empty (and I'm without a vehicle to go to TSC) and it's starting to feel like an Alfred Hitchcock movie out there. Here's this morning's view from the bathroom window:

My orps have gotten so big and lovely. No eggs from them yet, but I think it could be any day. I'm two orps and an SS away from having all my hens/pullets laying.

And this I just thought was neat. I'm using that fallen sapling as a fence post, and when it's damp outside the moss gets green and springy. It's so pretty. You can see a little of my fence at the bottom. That's my FBMC in the background.
