"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks TD! I started misting yesterday after I was getting stuck chicks. One just hatched on its own, so maybe that helped? I've ordered the brinsea spot check, so hopefully no more temp issues for me.

This was my second hatch in the Dickey cabinet. I thought the first was a little dry but had no other hatches to compare to. Both times now I've kept the humidity at 30% until lockdown. The next hatch I'm going with 54% humidity for incubation per Earnest Dickey's instructions.

That's really encouraging. This FBMC/SS egg was like this for 19 hours:

After losing the shrink-wrapped chick, I'm helping this one. I'm leaving everyone else alone for now. There is VERY LOUD cheeping from the egg with the tiny pip, so I'm going to let it continue on it's own for now. I don't like hatching on the sides, I've decided.
In case you don't know and do decide to help........There is two membranes the outer white one and the inner with the veins. Peel only the outer white membrane then coat the inner with Bacitracin. When it's coated you can see the veins very well. Seeing that's it's day 23 they should be ready. The veins will tell you. They really become like concrete if you don't lube them with the Bacitracin. My chicks still have matted down but at least they're alive.

These are the two I have now. The australorp-SS (sprawled) hatched very quickly on it's own. The FBMC-SS (curled) is the one I assisted. I was so afraid to lose it. Over the course of three hours I slow chipped back enough shell to see if it was shrink-wrapped. It wasn't. I followed Cody's advice and just removed the little cap, but I left the inner membrane. After several minutes it kicked free and is doing fine. :)

TD, thanks for the link! I'm pretty sure I've read it before, way back. It was a good refresher. I still like getting opinions from y'all.

Haha, we posted at the same time. I don't have any bacitracin, but I'll get it before the next hatch.

I'm SO READY for no rain or mud. As soon add we can trade it for sunshine that will be great! Although my cabbages are appreciating the rain.

Such pretty pictures!!

I bit the bullet and threw down pine shavings in the run so the poor things didn't have to tread water to get to the feed.
