"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I had to dub my daughters 4-h oegb this evening. I am not a happy Mommy :hit. She was wanting to do it herself. Which was admirable. But after she started on the first wattle I took over immediately. We had talked it over plenty and we had agreed that if it wasn't going well that I would have to take over. She hesitated to much and I didn't want to stress the bird. He got vitamins and scrambled eggs after and is now inside being very active. If anyone needed help now it seems that it would be me. Hahaha!!!!!! :idunno

Don't know if I did a good job or not yet. But I think it's decent for a first time.

I had to google "dubbing". I don't know how you did that Lemon. It had to be hard to do.

I think I'd rather butcher than dub.

You got that exactly right.

But they won't judge the bird if it isn't dubbed because that is the standard. We may let her try another breed after she finishes this season out. I would like her to at least follow through on this until then. She has really learned a lot and is getting very particular and paying attention to lots of detail. She is NOT interested in fluffy breeds at all. She likes the close, tight feathered birds. Some on our list we would like to learn more about are D'anvers, Japs, Seabrights, D'uccle.......

Isbars and Swiss black hens which you would think Black birds would be panting but these aren't. They are on the small size of large foul that could make a difference. The Legbars aren't bad either. They only pant if the roost in the rafters in the big coop. They like it high where the heat is. Pam
Pam, yesterday on Rare Breed Auctions I placed a bid for ten Barbezieux chicks from GF. Of course I didn't win cause I waited around till the last 30 seconds and mucked up my bid. Kinda glad I didn't win. I searched for awhile on google and could find no info for heat/cold tolerance of this breed or any info at all regarding temperament. I assume they'd do ok being a Mediterranean breed.
Do you have knowledge of what these birds are like?

She likes the smaller birds. I think the seabrights are out of this world beautiful. If I wasn't raising to eat I'd like to have some.

Your Daughter must be pretty tough to be able to dub a chicken.

I have them Cody. They are only 2 months old they aren't having any heat issues at this age. There are tricks or stratagies for winning for less I'll PM you them later. If your intrested in one before I do PM me. I didn't buy mine from them even tho I do buy or win from them. This breed is the flightyest breed I've ever had. They don't like to be handled are great free rangers. They are starting to calm down. I'll give you my secrets but lets not bid aginst each other. Deal? That one went way too high for me but last year when they first released them they went for 999.00 for 8+. That is crazy when you can buy direct for less.Last night they seemed to double insize. Remember my guess this breed post no one would play, that was them. I'll take up to date pics tomorrow. If you deside you want them you will be glad you asked. Lmao! Pam
