When I was a little girl my grandfather would put those chick's seperate. He always said 50% survival rate. But over half the time the yolk would absorb in a few days and the chicken would live.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone need a young EE roo? I sold a guy two sussex chicks and an EE from my Easter hatch. He lives in TX and his neighbor is starting to mind the noise. But he wants a strictly pet home, where the roo won't end up in a stew pot.

I'll arrange the travel for him. I think the roo feathered in black/silver/gray, but I'll try to get a picture. This guy is super nice and really dotes on his birds, so I know this is a tough decision for him. If anyone knows anyone, I'd appreciate it.

I've had it happen but was unable to get the chick before the other chicks did. It survived but I think you caught it in time might as well leave it in the bator and see what happenes. Pam

I hatched one like that from my meat birds. It dried up and finally fell off. Kind of like a human babies navel. As long as there are no intestines protruding into that area it should do ok. Well, providing also that the other chicks don't pick at it either.

Will give it a try. It will be my Sisters responsibility if it lives tonight. It looked like it may be going down hill a while ago. Thank you Pam.

We have had chicks hatching! We are up to 13 with 3 more to go. Then we will have another week or so to wait for the next batch. These are all pullet eggs. So far the only problem we had was one pipped at the wrong end. I caught it early and turned the egg though. The chicks are cute. But way more melanized that I expected. Genetics fun. There were are some that are not so dark. It will be interesting to see who makes the cut down the road. All are Cochin except for a couple oegb.
