"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

See this right here is so confusing to me (as is most everything I read here lately lol)
Ya mean to tell me that you can have a mixed breed and an Easter egger (which is essentially mixed breed too right) and end up with a pure breed baby?!?! How on earth does that work and how on earth can you tell. I swear I'm getting that book!

Chickens don't work like dogs and horses. You can breed two mixed breeds together and if the offspring looks like a certain breed, it is that breed. Now others will be hesitant to use that offspring since the chickens it creates may not breed true and look just like it. You won't find chickens with pedigrees, but many people place value on knowing where their birds come from. You can absolutely show, lets say a rhode island red, if it came from an easter egger and a cochin. As long as it looks like a rhode island red, and lays eggs of the correct color.

Got it! It makes sense to me now.
It's fascinating.

In yhe case of my easter eggers they are from 3 breeds mixed together to get an EEgger. One of the orignal mixes is legbars thats why EEggers have blue eggs. So I have two hatchery EE. I breed the EE to my legbar and they look like their mothers and lay blue eggs. I take a brown layer and breed with a blue egg gene Rooster and get olive eggers. Now I have to do it for three generations to have olive eggers that will hatch olive eggers. with my easter eggers they will breed true all the time. This is down the road for you tho. Good question! I knew your question was for me when I looked at what you were reading. I'll be gone most of tomorrow but their are good people on this thread rhat have a lot of experince. Pam

Morning y'all. So yesterday DH picked up a duck dog. Any tips for training him to leave the chickens alone?

I think we're doing ok so far. He's an old man, so that helps, and he's not our first lab. I just like to know what everyone else thinks or does.
