"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey Pam, got my Azure order today. I asked the driver about rooster delivery. :D  She said the truck is kept at 34 degrees in the trailer. I don't think it would be a good idea to try shipping him :lau
He'd have icicles hanging of his wattles by the time he arrived in Ruston.

I've started a Barbezieux thread if you want to join the discussion sometime. :)

Thanks Cody ,I'll stop in an check it out. I got mine pretty earlie after they released them. I need to take some recent pics. They are starting to get tall. That's too bad about using their truck for delivery that sucks. Pam

Hi, everyone! I have been looking at different types of breeding pens/coops all afternoon and I think something similar to the 4in1 construction with 4 attached runs as Pam uses would be the best option for me. I wish I could afford one large building with a center walk thru and separate breeding sections on either side, but alas, I can't. Maybe in a few years if I stay interested in my "chicken farm" I will invest in something like that. Thanks for the ideas given and the pics! I will be picking up some "free" pallets tomorrow from a friend which I have heard is a pain to get apart, but note the quotation "free".

Will also browse craigslist and the local salvaged wood/home item store to see what else I can find.

I have fallen victim again to chicken math. This is the last time, well, since I promised my husband, yes, it is the last until spring.

I am getting a trio of buff laced polish on Saturday. They are adult birds, 14 mos old. So pretty too!

Question for those with/who had Orpingtons: I have two cuckoo chicks I purchased that are 4 wks old. They both have a white dot on their head which I was told indicated male. Well, one of the dots is faint and not well defined and it is showing faster feathering than the other. The other also acts like a cockerel. Could the one with the faster feathering and poorly defined spot be a female? If pics needed I will try to take some soon and post. If no one has any experience with these orpingtons I will post to the sex this chick forum. Just checking with my home base first.

Thanks to all, Teresa

If you sent me a P M I'm unable to open them for some reason. I'll try again tomorrow and get back with you in the order I was contacted in. If you live in the Slidell area and feed organic feed I was able to buy in bulk direct from the mill. I will have it in about two weeks. I don't have the shipping cost yet but it will be slightly less than Azure standard but will have a higher protein amount 18% instead of 16%. I may get 13 bags of 16% protein. I will have starter, grower, and Layer. So if you run out or would rather by as needed I will sell for the price I buy it for. This month I have the following for sale a doz white Bresse. 8 month old pair Black Isbars,A pair of 5 month old isbars,A pair of Marsh Daisies roo is 6 months and 5 month old pullet. a pair of Lemon cuokoo Neidheiderrs. I love this breed and if I didn't have excess roosters I would keep them. Sweet and gentle birds selling only as a pair.I am to my knowledge the only one in this area to have East Frision gulls one pair of gold gulls. I have the following extra roos Biefelders,Legbars,Neiderrhiners,Sumalters,Isbars. I'll take and post pics tomorrow along with answers to PM's. Thank You Pam

Mine are but they aren't full grown and are going through a growth spurt. I'll do a better head count too I may list more for sale. The feed is just letting people that use scratch and Peck know. Can't tell you how many times I've ran out before the next delivery. You can't find it local so this solves my problem. If anyone else runs out they now have an option. Thanks Pam

Mire, I'm glad for you that you are planning to build another coop. That is exciting and will be fun. Don't be shy to ask any questions along the way. Congratulations!!!

Thanks Cody! It is exciting and will be somewhat frustrating along the way. I like building things, my husband and children don't so getting help is sometimes difficult. But I got it done with my first coop so I can handle this one too. :)

Don't turn it off yet every now and then you get a late hatcher. Easter Eggers lay light green and light blue eggs every now and then you get a peachy pink color it's rare. They never lay olive. They are egg laying machines and most people including me have a couple for there egg laying ability. That's great numrers on you hatch hope the isbars are a pair. They lay mint to olive green and every green inbetween. The eggs from EErs is very light not a deep pigment like a isbar or legbar.Pam

Thanks for clearing that up!

I understand where tour coming from with trashcan chicks but my incubators pretty good so nearly every chick hatchs on time, i even give them an extra day, but theres Zero progress with the leftover eggs, and after candling, i went ahead an shut her down.

Two looked like that one, internally piped, but gone :(

Two hadnt even drawn down...

One hatching fatality, Bresse chicks who was stuck to the egg :( i didnt find him in distress until it was too late.

5 (brown and green) removed of 48 set during incubation for infertilty.

I have a pretty good homemade candler, i use a large high powered flashlight, wish it was smaller but anyway, i taped a roll of fabric to the top, to make the egg seal against the light and i love to see whos developing :)

You and Cody have some of the nicest coops ive seen, i love the breeder layouts! Mine look sorta shabby in comparison, good thing the chickens dont care!
