"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Thanks! I called the LSU Ag office in Lafayette and they are going to have someone call me back. I have her wrapped in several bags in refrigerator until I find out if they can do it locally or not.

I've taken a few of my birds to the local Ag office but it is in Homer.

Cody,

How did you have to store your birds before you brought them to the Ag office? I am still waiting for them to contact me with the information. Is refrigeration okay or would I need to put the bird in the freezer?

Thanks!

Teresa

Sorry I don't know for sure. Maybe Google necropsy for poultry. Cody will be online at some point. I thought it was freeze it but I'm not positive. I sure hope this wasn't the legbar. Pam

Kinda interesting thing this morning. I feed the little guys in the backyard shed then went to the back to feed the big guys. Just as I was finishing I hear a baby squak. One of the roasters was after it. It hid under the coop until I called and it came right to me. That's when I realized it was one of the babies form the backyard. Poor little thing traveled about 100 yds by itself just to get picked on by a bully.

No it was one of my leghorns. The legbar is doing great. She lays for a few days then takes a week off. Her rooster is attentive to her and her only. They both are so gentle and hardly fuss when I pick them up. My leghorn was fine Monday and yesterday my husband saw her in the nest box early morning and she was still there when he went to check on the birds at dark. She was hunched over, did not fight or squawk when I picked her up and she is a very skittish bird. Couldn't stand long without stumbling. Weak. Had a misformed tiny egg with something stringy on egg and still Inside of her vent. Her whole bottom skin was bright red. She had some oozing out of vent that stunk very badly. Kinda like an intestinal infection smell. Plus her crop was full. I massaged her crop and it went down without her vomiting so, not sure if it was reproductive organ issues or some type of intestinal infection or issue with crop. No wheezing, gurgling, coughing or drainage from beak. But did have clear thick liquid at back of beak. Whew...that is alot of info at one time. But if anyone has an idea of what may have happened it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Teresa,
Sorry I wasn't online earlier today.
The last time I froze a bird the vet said do not freeze them. Just keep them chilled in the fridge or in a plastic bag on ice.
Freezing them solid does damage to the organs that makes it hard to necropsy when looking for visual signs.

She may have been egg bound. The egg gets stuck sometimes breaks inside the vent. It would smell bad too. I would still go ahead with your plans to find out l'm sure it could be something else. Good thing you stuck with the fridge. Let us know what happens. Pam

I'll take some notes so I give correct info if your not on line. Thanks Pam

Good Morning friends! I bought two polish bantams at the Denham Springs chicken swap a few months ago hoping they would both be female, but one ended up being a roo! Since I am in Baton Rouge city limits, I am going to have to give this guy up. Since the pair is inseparable, I am looking for a home for the pair (photo attached). They are inseparable.

These two are VERY friendly, especially the roo, Albert. I would like them go to a home where they would be treated as pets. If you or someone you know is interested, please send a message. I would also ask that we meet in Baton Rouge.

Thank you!
