"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Ok I need to vent. I have a customer who wants top quality, birds that are breed quality. She always try's to play the I'm broke card. I don't know her she lives in a different state. Then I see her on sale pages buying more birds after I cut her a break. So she asked for a price on ultra rare breeds at Pol. These are not birds I've breed yet they are ones I've paid top dollar for and top quality feed for many months. First she declined my price which is fine I wasn't planning on selling till I breed the best and if I have any that don't meet the cut for breeding I'd sell them. Now she says she will pay my price but wants me to throw in shipping. :barnie
It just gets me sometimes what people will ask you to do. I came down for her on a rooster. She said she needed another one of a different breed down the road to get me to come down with the promise of more sales in the future. Then said she had chicks of that breed and is hoping for a rooster. I sold her the roo for what I paid for it as a chick just to get rid of him. I really don't like processing rare breeds their numbers are low enough. Any way now she will meet my price but wants shipping included. I'm thinking she got over on me once it's not going to happen again. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get it off my chest. Pam

There is no pic of your bird in you post to give an opinion. I retest for NPIP in February guess I better call an get a day locked in.What were you told about the test? Pam

I don't remember the exact names but it is 2 diseases they test for. Sorry I forgot. He said he is going to test each bird.

Cajun I'm not an expert in SLW but the lacing does look nice and crisp. Have you read the standard of perfection for that breed? Are her legs the correct color, and her comb the correct type?

Thanks.... I need to read the SOP book. What is the name of it again? I'm going to order it.

Now it came through. Not the greatest pic. I think you got her from a hatchery. There is a member a few pages back that has good quality SLWs. The pics were after Christmas sorry can't remember her user name. Pam

I got it from someone local but i agree, I think it's hatchery stock.

Since I've been following all the sale pages on facebook, I see that kind of stuff all the time. People seem to poor mouth but want to be picky, etc.

I know what they are. They added avian influenza . Was just curious if you had been told something I didn't know. This time I'm sticking to my price. I know they were auctioned 4 times I won one of those. I've only seen them for sale from a farm out of New York . Thanks' for responding. Pam

Pam, that would have made me more than a little frustrated too. Some people will try to get something for nothing no matter it's true worth and have been doing it for ages. Maybe steer her towards the hatcheries next time she wants to haggle for a too low price.

You need to look at it as poulets that are laying or POL. Also when you NPIP you have a larger pool of buyers to sell to. I know I can get higher prices in my area than others in smaller towns.I factor in how much feed etc. olive eggers are an easy mix to sell too. Back yard coops for eggs like colored eggs. I've separated my final four breeds . So in 3 weeks all my eggs/ chicks will be pure breeds. Very happy with the color of my marens eggs. The pics doesn't show true. I thought my greenfire line would give me lighter eggs turns out they lay the darkest. Pam

The honas were being so derpy today! It was funny, except that Ragnar began the day by crowing at 6 am. Repeatedly. In the living room. :/ But when I added hay I got to cuddle Lagertha for a bit. :love

Ragnar was NOT happy about that. He clucked and fretted until I put her back.

I have a light brahma named Lagertha after the character on Vikings also :) Need to name one Ragnar. They are nice looking birds!

Morning y'all. I'm in a bit of a pickle with this senior lab I adopted. Turns out he's been my mystery predator for 5 or so birds. A few nights ago he went on a little murder spree and killed three; I found the bodies stacked neatly in the azaleas. The fourth is plucked bald from shoulders to tail.

So I need to find him a home. He's not good with chickens, but he's good with kids, cats, and other dogs. He's a really good family dog or yard dog. We've got him house and crate trained. He will sit and stay before eating, and we were working on "lay down."

He's a chocolate lab, 8, not neutered. We got him in October and I worked with him on the chickens and he was doing really well! But it's getting to be our busy time of year and I'm not going to have time to retrain. His previous owner said he was a good duck dog, but we haven't tried him on that. I do know he has a soft mouth.

If y'all wouldn't mind spreading the word or watching for folks who would want a dog, I'd appreciate it. I'll deliver him anywhere in the state or east of Beaumont.

He really is a good boy, and I've championed for him and worked with him for several months. He's just never been a good fit for us, like a hexagon peg and an octagon hole.

I have a mix breed large size dog who likes the taste of chicken. He begins drooling when they come too close. When the chickens are free ranging I have to walk him outside on a leash.
