"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Why'd the chick jump off the diving board? To get to the meal worms on the other side!

Really! This just happened here. My little girl and I were feeding the backyard chicks some meal worms so a few that were forging on the other side came a running. Except the one that got on the diving board, walked to the end and took a leap of faith.
He's ok, I fished him out, brought him in to dry off and all is well.

And welcome aboard April, your adventure awaits!!!!!!

I didn't want them to begin with but the hubby did...now they are kinda mine! I'll have to add a better pic of my 3rd baby in question!

Okay. Here she is.

There is also one that isn't pooping like the others. One has what seems to be loose poop. Is it normal for it to be different? It smells really stinky!

Welcome! I live only 15 minutes south of you, a little past Brusly. I love the chicks! You'll get chicken fever soon enough. Is this specific chick only having the loose poop? Chickens have two different types of poop, with one being firm and compact, and the other being loose and watery. The second replaces the urinating function and is normally much stinkier. However if your chick isn't passing any solid poop at all, I would look into getting some save-a-chick probiotic/electrolyte from tractor supply and putting it in their water.

This is the chick I'm not sure what she is. I was thinking black australorp but not sure. I'm not sure who has the loose poop. Could be all of them at different times so it seems like a lot. I did get this yellow powder to add to their water when we got them so I added some of that. I thought it said to use just for the first week but guess it can't hurt.

Morning April! Pam answered you right here. You've got a good mix!!
I just wanted to come and introduce myself...My name is April. I just got my babies on Jan 11th so I have just over a week of chick experience :D We are totally new to chickens but my hubby wanted some for eggs and a neighbor was ordering some so we ended up with 3. They are from a hatchery. From what we can tell I think I have one Easter Egger, one Black Australorp, and one Barred Rock. Of course as chicks they are really hard to tell apart!! They are supposed to be all pullets so hopefully no surprises. I am in love with the already and am hoping to add a few more! I live in Port Allen, La. which is right outside of Baton Rouge. This page has been amazing. I have really just been reading tons of information and learning all kinds of stuff! Here are a few pics of my babies. Maybe someone on here can tell what I have?
The one with the dot on it's head is your barred rock. Black and cream is your australorpe . Not sure that's a hatchery Easter egger tho. :welcome the La-yers. What part of La. Are you from. Pam

I was told to add some oatmeal for new chicks because that would help with pasty butt. I lost one to pasty butt, now that I give them oatmeal a couple of times a week never had any more problems. I even give some to my laying hens once or twice a month.
