"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I was told to add some oatmeal for new chicks because that would help with pasty butt. I lost one to pasty butt, now that I give them oatmeal a couple of times a week never had any more problems.  I even give some to my laying hens once or twice a month.

What kind of oatmal n how Do u give it to them

You are close!! I'm actually in Erwinville. Port Allen is just easier to say

This is the chick I'm not sure what she is. I was thinking black australorp but not sure. I'm not sure who has the loose poop. Could be all of them at different times so it seems like a lot. I did get this yellow powder to add to their water when we got them so I added some of that. I thought it said to use just for the first week but guess it can't hurt.

Probiotics and electrolytes are good for the chicks. Learned that from this great group here

I just wanted to come and introduce myself...My name is April. I just got my babies on Jan 11th so I have just over a week of chick experience :D We are totally new to chickens but my hubby wanted some for eggs and a neighbor was ordering some so we ended up with 3. They are from a hatchery. From what we can tell I think I have one Easter Egger, one Black Australorp, and one Barred Rock. Of course as chicks they are really hard to tell apart!! They are supposed to be all pullets so hopefully no surprises. I am in love with the already and am hoping to add a few more! I live in Port Allen, La. which is right outside of Baton Rouge. This page has been amazing. I have really just been reading tons of information and learning all kinds of stuff! Here are a few pics of my babies. Maybe someone on here can tell what I have?
I think you are correct on the breeds. Welcome to BYC. ...I'm close as well, in Central. This site has great people and a wealth of information for you.
Just the guys...

There is also one that isn't pooping like the others. One has what seems to be loose poop. Is it normal for it to be different? It smells really stinky!

This is the australorpe . The one not pooping you should check for pasty but. It is just what it sounds like. Clean the butt with warm water on a paper towel .I would buy corid too. If your chicks get blood in there poop or look in distress, wings hanging by sides not eating an drinking normally it could save them. Keep water bowls and feed clean. They get it from eating poop. Sometimes they have it before you get then .Pam

I give my chicks Quaker oats or store brand oatmeal. They love it. These are my first chicks and all seam healthy. their shells are very strong and can be hard to break.
