"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I built a coop a few years back and tried my best to put wheels on it but it was way too heavy to move.

Anyway, when I moved, I tore it down and took it with me although some of it has to be repaired. It is about half way up now. It won't be long and I will be ready. Not going to do like I have done in the past, which is get my chicks and then have to bust my butt to get the coop done. Although, it is a good motivator!

I did the same thing. I guess I overbuilt! This time I decided to buy a coop on-line. The material cost was close but I didn't realize how cheap the materials would be. Oh well, live and learn. It will work for a while. If it just holds together for a year or two, I'll be in a better position time-wise to build with better materials.

I just picked up my chicks from the co-op this past Saturday. So far, so good.....

There's something I love about a quiet room with full incubators. The gentle hum is so promising, and I get a similar feeling from greenhouses or nurseries. You can almost hear the life growing. The potential they hold is exciting

What brand of incubator is the second one? I have one of the first, the little giant. Don't like it. I think I prefer the older models with the heating element that runs around the top of the unit which my Dad gave me his old one like that. It doesn't have temperature fluctuations as much as my newer/electronic one. The chicks start running around after hatching and they mess up the temp probe location and there goes the temperature wanting to soar to 106.

Bottom one is a little giant circulating air I've had for a few years. I love it. It's been very faithful and hatches well. The top is a brand new still air I was supposed to just use for hatching. I neede more space so I'm trying it as an incubator for this set of eggs. I don't like the humidity or temperature gauge in it at all

Just wanted to update y'all on my shipped Bielefelder eggs. I followed Ruby's advice, the air cells had stabilized by day 16 when I put them in a carton in the hatcher. Today is day 21. Out of 13 eggs, 5 are not showing movement/pipping and no sounds from the eggs. Out of the 8 eggs left, 5 have hatched, 1 is unzipping and two have internally pipped and are chirping.

So, I would say that was a great hatch with all the odds against those babies. I will assist the remaining eggs if needed. It is my nature to assist those in need, esp tiny defenseless babies.

Will follow-up with pictures when they are finished hatching and can be removed from hatcher.
