"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

We had some work going on by the chicken house on Monday so Flash, my isbar roo, kept a close eye on everything happening. Even speaking his mind now and then :)

Finally took the dive. Good for you! Hope you have a great hatch! Pam

Yep. My cousin that we hatched for her class wanted something the kids could see better for next time. She found this one so I bought it and will let her use it in class. But of course I have to make sure it works!

Wanted to let y'all know that I dropped the birds off Tuesday morning and I'm still waiting on the final results from the necropsy. I did get a preliminary report yesterday which didn't really narrow anything down just mainly stated the symptoms that each bird was showing. All of them showed respiratory tract infection issues along with enlarged spleens and excessive fluid in the circulatory system. Definitely something funky going on here..... Supposed to hear something tomorrow on further diagnosis. Mycoplasma gallisepticum is one possiblilty along with a few other respiratory illnesses. I know this doesn't really explain much I just wanted to let y'all know how it's going in case you run into issues like this. If there's one thing I'll take from this it's the importance of biosecurity to the health of your flock. No more swaps for me.....

That is just so sad. Really sorry for your loss. Thanks for keeping us posted.

Sorry to hear! Hopefully they can narrow it down more for you so that you know how to treat your coop, run, etc...
Don't beat yourself up though, lesson learned and move forward. Very few of us take bio security as serious as we should. It is inconvenient for us to have them in a totally seperate location and we feel bad that they are not out enjoying life like the other chickens, but, as you found out the hard way, it can be a fatal mistake. Hamg in there!

Well, out of the 12 eggs that I received in the mail, 2 of them hatched yesterday. I was a little concerned by one of the chicks. She seemed to be weaker and more unsteady than the other one but both were doing fine this morning.

Sorry Cajin each and every one of us has made mistakes with our flock starting out. Sending good vibes it's not Mycoplasma . That stays in the ground can be spread by contact, air etc. I really hope it's just respitory issues. I would rather she took her time and do her job to the best of her abilities then give you a rushed answer. I so hope you just need some medicine to heal them and not depopulation. :fl Pam

They say we gain a little wisdom as we get older. Well, to me, it isn't worth it. I think I'd choose to go back to being healthy, young and stupid. As it turned out my Acu-rite meter had the ability to read a constant humidity the whole time. Just needed to press a button. So much for the alleged wisdom!

My just finished homemade, Hideous-bator is ugly, not square, not level and not plumb. But, it is dead-on with every variable I care to monitor.

My son's co-worker has a yard full of heritage New Hampshires. They are absolutely beautiful and are laying machines. His 4 roosters are perfect gentlemen. No aggressive tendencies what-so-ever. This young man will provide me with enough eggs to fill my 1st egg turner (41 eggs). It would probably be smart to keep some of these fine birds but, the grandkids and I, all want nicer-looking and rarer birds. Wisdom?

Now, I need to find a digital thermometer that reads in 1/10ths of a degree.

I am gonna get started building a hatcher. No need to add nasty to ugly on my incubator.

I hope this confidence in the Hideous-bator is not OVERconfidence!
