Would you all mind if I quote you - anonymously - to share your requests for prayers and to help give others a bit more of a sense of what is going on?

Also - a few years ago up here we were hit with Superstorm Sandy. I live about 20 miles inland, and on a hillside, so that kept us from having flooding right here. Not so far away, thousands lost their homes to the high tides and were battling mold. The volunteers of Occupy Sandy requested cases and cases of borax. And vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide. I have read we should not combine vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, by the way. But I believe each of these were used to clean basement walls.

I know from experience that when I mix up borax and hot water, that just disappears mildew, and it leaves a residue that makes the surface mildew resistant for quite a while.

I have been and will continue to pray for you and to feel immense gratitude for each of you.

Please share far and wide! I'll be sure to pass on the information about borax. We are a Petri dish for mold and mildew here. On top of it already being soaked from the storm, it continues to rain lightly daily which prevents anything from drying thoroughly. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for reading and sharing.
 
Tea tree oil is another thing I use in the basement to prevent mildew. I put it in with white vinegar in a spray bottle, and I add a little spearmint oil to kind of cool down the aroma. I enjoy the tea tree, but to me it's a spicy aroma and I like the cooler ones. Just personal preference. Lemongrass would probably be nice to add in, too.

Fiberlock shockwave is what the fema paper I have recommends for the mold and mildew treatment. It's not cheap, but is supposed to be THE stuff. We'll see.
This is going to be a long road to recovery for sure. We are cleaning out debris here while watching our friends and family south of us get the flood waters now. The flooding is still happening as I type, water can't be stopped.

Were you able to get the Shockwave locally? I don't have a dealer very close at all. :/
 
If I may make a suggestion as a nurse....U should wear masks as u can get chemical burns in the lungs if u inhale too many fumes over a period of time....
 
Hello,I have had mold before due to a hurricane. Yes bleach is effective,but must be mixed half water,half bleach.I put it in a spray pump and sprayed down everything really well.Please wear like a rain coat,cover your skin well and wear a GOOD rated mask such as is rated for sheet rock work.You can get chemical burns of the skin and in lungs if you don't wear a mask. My first time I did this,I didn't cover my face and arms and I ended up with chemical burns on my face and arms from the fine spray of th epump. Afterwards let sit about 24 hrs,then I would buy a dehumidifier and run it non stop for days before you recover any areas sprayed. Please know I am not trying to tell you what to do,just I have had hurricane damage 3 times and had to go down to studs in the walls,so I have had a lil experience....
