"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I will let you have my spare rooster...
(Just kidding) (Really, he's yours if you want him...)
Welcome to BYC?
How many chickens? What kind?
I have a bunch - 20 or so but it's a farm flock, not really pets.
I am just north of Baton Rouge.

I read through all of Topochico225's posts and all the replies. There is some very good information there. I am actually surprised the hen still wants to eat with the yeast infection. I have farm chickens and don't spend the time with mine as Topochico does. I am impressed by the attention to details shared in the posts. The hen was seen by LSU and is on a course of treatment. I read about the new concerns and issues with mucus/breathing. I don't know what else to do. I would probably call back to the vet with the increased mucous/breathing issues.
Best wishes on their recovery!
Just saw this! Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly Jan 9. She's at LSU for a necropsy, and we're awaiting results. Thank y'all for your help!

Thank you for the offer but I'm talking about people friends lol. I did just finish building my chicken yard fence and looking to start breeding my ladies to replace older ones. I had a rooster but he was killed by our goat😫. The goat has since found a new home. I will be getting another rooster(hopefully a breeding trio). I am very chicken ambitious and want to start using my chickens a source of income. Orpington is the breed for me. My daughter joined 4h at the end of 2020, so any advice on show poultry or livestock is appreciated or point me in the direction of some information on showing animals.

4H is good, our local school district has FFA, too. I currently have 1 big fat buffy, she's getting a little age on her, I think she's about 4 or 5.

Hey y'all! I'm doing a science project for Biology, and I need 8 fertile hatching chicken eggs. We knew a guy in who was a retired LSU professor who lived somewhere between Zachary and Slaughter off Plains and Port Hudson Road. He bred lots of different chickens and sold them and fertilized eggs. I forgot his name, but I thought y'all chicken people might know who he is. If any of y'all have fertile eggs also, they would be much appreciated! We're in EBR Parish.

The project is hatching 4 eggs under a broody hen and 4 in an incubator and seeing which method turns out healthier, stronger, more robust babies. When they hatch, they will be placed in a brooder and monitored for a week or two, and then sold/given away to good, safe homes. These chicks will NOT be killed or irresponsibly homed! My family and I have raised several flocks of chickens, and we only want the very best for our ladies. I have always wanted a Barred Rock, but under no circumstances will I turn down any breed.

Thank y'all so much!

I have fertile eggs, mixed breeds. I have one barred rock hen but I cannot tell whose eggs are whose. Your choices would be white, any of several shades of brown/speckledy brown, or green. I have a black rooster and a golden cochin rooster (probably the responsible dad).
I am, however on Covid Quarantine until the 10th...
If you want them sooner, I can probably get my daughter to meet up with you or deliver them, she's always up for a drive!
Perfectly happy to give a home to any you raise up, also.
And if you need a roo...Mr.Black Rooster is still looking for a home....
Oh yeah, eggs will be free in the interest of science!
I live in Zachary and I may have gotten some buff orpingtons from that guy years ago. I sort of remember where it was (not far from me) but it's been years.
