"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

I always worry about my birds when it gets cold here. They always seem to be fine, but I still worry. We have an open 10×10, but for tonight we wrapped it with tarp about 85% around. They seemed like they had found a comfortable spot up high on their 2x4 but I still worry so much about them. I found myself here tonight trying to ease my mind by reading folks' advice who live in places with way colder temps than LA. I am glad they are fully fluffy and done with their molt . . . still trying to find a peace of mind lol.

There was a layer of ice on both water pans in both runs this morning. The d’Uccles are not enjoying this. All 3 are so fluffed up they’re little spheres :lau
Mine were like spheres too 🤣, I had to take pictures to show my husband. I said "look, they look round like the Angry Birds right now!"

If all goes according to plan, I’ll have show quality purebred Mille Fleur d'Uccle chicks/fertilized eggs for sale this spring/summer. Not NPIP certified (I have 7 chickens when I should have 3 max and a cockerel when I should have just girls, and I don't want them to get seized for having over the legal limit. The birds are not in any type of squeezed enclosure in a tiny yard, so I feel morally ok keeping them in city limits.) so no shipping, but I have had no known fowl pox, Marek's, LL, MG, MS, coryza, etc. in my flock. 2 of my hatchery older girls that will not be used in this project are vaccinated against Mareks, but the rest are not. Birds are dewormed seasonally with Ivermectin and fed an organic all flock diet along with free range goodness.

If y'all are interested, PM me :)

I recently discovered that one of my d'Uccles was a cockerel, so I now have a breeding trio. They're from a show breeding flock of my friends' in Walker. Cockerel is going on 6 months and pullets are going on 9 months. They're all very sweet tempered and the one pullet who is laying is a great little layer. Can't wait to see if Tuffet does his job and we get babies. I'd either be putting the eggs in the incubator (max capacity 12 bantam) or letting the pullets go broody. Probably bator so I can keep them laying. We shall see! If he can reach them, I may have EExd'Uccle eggs too.

Any of you ever bought from the guy who posts on craigslist with the bovan brown or americana battery hens? Wonder what processing plant there coming from and the back story… comes to laffy, btr, hammond, lake charles.. pretty much stays on i10 heading east until runs out I believe.

there like 7-9 bucks. I’m sure there about laid out, and probably wont live buta year or two more. Just an option tho for quick turnaround

He's on there constantly. I figured they were battery hens.
I haven't ever called him. This ad, right?

I was trying trying to buy some game breeds from someone on CL but they just quit responding, that was around Christmas. I was disappointed because I have been looking for some reasonably priced game chickens for a while.
