"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Almost got everything thawed just in time to start thawing out again

Just not real happy with mother nature right now.
Spent 4 days getting things to where they wouldnt freeze to figure out only half of it worked.

Personally I like the cold but this is TOO MUCH now.
Had water dripping out by the pens but wind
chill was very low this morning (like 7*F) and
water line still all froze. Just got 1 of them thawed so
I would not have to tote more water. Had to winterize
some more this morning. Lost 1 young speckled sussex
last night but think they will be okay tonight.
And to think, about two years ago I tried talking
wife and kids into moving to Alaska. Think I
will put those crazy thought away for a while now.

I didn't loose any chickens yet. But did loose two new born goats. Doe had them before I got home after 7 pm. Tried to warm them but it was to late.

Will be glad when it warms up.

Sorry bout that, back now and chickin' in. So far everythings well with the exception of the temps but we'll make it through all this.

I posted over on the other thread I think Kuntrygirl has in the management thread. About the only good thing about this cold weather is this is the first time in a month or longer that I haven't gotten my shoes completely covered in mud traipsing around doing the chores, as it all frozen, just like walking on concrete.

Everbody hunker up and hang in there for a few more days and it'll get better, sooner or later.

Oh yes they just love water they even have webbed feet just like labs do. I have one OL' Scrapper that when we go riding trails on the 4-wheeler he avoids no water holes or deep areas he hits them full steam and if he can't wade them them he swims it. Both of my older Catahoula's were raised over in Avoylles parish right on the Atchafalaya river so water to them is just a normal part of the terrain in fact their daddy is one bad-@$$ alligator fightin' SOB I've seen him come back with his neck split open and his owner stich him up and in a couple of days he a rearin' to go on another killin' spree again.

If you want to learn a little more about your Catahoula, Check out Don Abney and his book on The Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog it's got some good reading on their origins and a lot of facts even I didn't know about them and I've had Catahoulas since I was way young and that's been quite a few decades ago.

We made it thru another cold night here 17* this morning, all's well nobody froze to death last night. I posted on the other thread this morning evrbody WATCH OUT for the thawing mud as it's slicker than greased owl crap. 'Bout busted my @$$ with both hands full of 5 gal. buckets of water. It's above freezing now and in the sun its starting to turn back into mud, sure was nice to walk on solid ground for a little bit. It's gonna warm up and more rain this next weekend and I'm not gonna say a bad word about it this time as you know it has to warm up to rain.

Joining this group.. Just found out that my husband is getting stationed in Fort Polk! We're going to coming this August.
Trying to decide whether to rent or buy, but I'm having trouble finding real estate listings online!
Also any chance there are even rental houses with land? If not, then I going to talk the hubby into buying a house! Cause you know, why not?
