"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Missi we have a 20 x 40 run for them - they will not be allowed to free roam. We've had them around before & free roaming just doesn't work- it's exactly what you said -- they get into your flowers & your vegetable garden & roost on your vehicles & porch (leaving "presents" to step in) & harass the barn cats & so on! Peacocks are their own worst enemy, between their curiosity & fearlessness!

My folks were talking to a cousin yesterday about my owl problem & he told them "Terri ought to do what Uncle Carlos used to do-- he would put a trap up on top of a post & bait it with raw chicken & caught them every time". Well of all things! one thing we have is plenty of posts & traps, so we will try that!

I like the soaker hose idea! think I'll get some & put it down this weekend!

That's what I thought!! Thanks for the info!!

Anything in the works out there for some sort of swap/meet before winter sets in, or is everyone waiting til spring before trying this? I'd really like to see us Louisiana people get some sort of network going.....sometimes I feel as if it's all happening on the other side of the country.

Come on, LAers, we gotta get to at least trying to plan SOMEthing.....I mean I for one would like us to...

I wanna be able to meet and swap, and all that, but can't travel to places like NY, or WA, or heck, even FL right now. I hear there is a swapmeet scheduled in Monticello, AR in October, I'm gonna try and make it. Would be nice to have something in LA, tho.

I'm down for a meet up in LA! I'm having trouble finding affordable chickens and resorted to getting cheap hatching eggs. I'm still getting my incubator made, but I'm looking for Japanese quail right now as well, and no luck so far, probably going to need to eggs for those too..

Hey Jess, nice to meet ya. Just wanted to let you know I have Coturnix (Japanese) quail!

I am waiting on the last 39 to pop out right now. Had 45 in, 6 have made it out today. I could have had a LOT more, but most of my older hens have expired, and now working with the younger ones....It is so hard keeping them alive past the week mark during cooler weather, so I think I will not hatch much more until spring. I'll go for 120 at a time then. Who knows....if we can get something going around here, maybe we can do some swapping. I don't have any purebreed chickens just yet, am working on that. That is why I'd like us to have some swaps. Gonna have a few silkies soon. I'm hoping to get hold of some Blue Plymouth Rock Eggs, and some Blue Wheaton/Wheaton Ameraucana eggs soon.

I would also like to have a "PoultryFest" Louisiana style.. The fair is going on right now here in monroe. I know we have the AG Expo here in West Monroe every year, that would be a good time, depending on cost of floor space. They have an outdoor area, horse stalls, ect. The only thing I worry about is kid impulse buying of chicks.
