yeah,.. right...

Well, I went ahead and candled it again and it was definetly moving in there. It just seems like it's a couple days behind all the others. Anyway I put it in the bator with my others and sterilized the whole bator with bleach water and put it back in there. If I didn't know it was good I wouldn't worry but now that I know it is I'm going to let it do it's thing. I'll just put the others in there with it tomorrow. One good thing right now is the humidity is so high outside and in the house that I'm not super worried about the shrink wrap issue!!

Like you said Terri I've got to give it a chance. I'd feel super bad if I didn't!!

Barred Babies that's the right thing to do.The water check I didn't see you did that but its a pretty good tell all also.Seeing movement in the egg is a guarantee its trying its best to get here

Well good morning! where is everybody?
at work here; so glad it's Friday, ran late as when I was moving the Blue Orps to their outside "daytime play pen" one got loose so I had to get the net & chase her all over the yard.
Looking forward to meeting some of you tomorrow at the Expo!

Barred Babies, how did the last chick trying to hatch do?

Remember to turn your clocks ahead on Sunday! I am not going to be a happy camper in the mornings next week but I do love the extra light in the evenings--now can get some SERIOUS gardening started!

Have a good day ya'll!

Any Shreveport area folks been to the Tractor Supply on Mansfield lately? We got some chicks there last weekend and they are yellow..of course we were told they were red pullets(it didnt take me long to figure out the hilarity of the TSC employees "Knowledge" on these boards)....my concern is that they may be the Cornish chickens that dont live that long. I CANNOT cull a bird...that is why I am so scared of getting roosters:barnie!! Most of my research on BYC regarding Tractor Supply chicks tells me they are either leghorns or cornish. Surley they wouldnt sell meat birds in a pullet only bin? Fingers crossed that they are leghorns. In my opinion they are the cutest chicks in the bunch. Just wondering if anyone has been to that store and can shed some light on it?? Also....can anybody tell a 1.5 week old leghorn from a cornish if I post pics?

Also-reading TerriLAChicks post from this morning leads me to another question....should I have a net in my chicken keeping supply "kit"??? Hadnt thought of that...but sounds like a good idea!

When I went to our TSC, there were 3 bins (bantams, cornish ----> (yellow) and a bin of "pullets"). You probably were sold the cornish. Someone may have gone in the store, pick up a chick and placed it back in the wrong bin. Did the bins have any info on them? Can you post a pic of the chick that you have?

Eastercreek, they didn't have the bins marked at Tractor Supply? All the leghorns I've seen are bright yellow as chicks, but it depends on the color of leghorn--some are white, some are red also. I haven't ever seen cornish chicks so don't really know. I think they sell cornish mostly as straight run? I'm not much help, sorry!

Yes get a net. I have two sizes of nets, one regular size fishing net I got at Walmart -- that's my "chicken" net -- and one really big net I got at The Academy sporting store -that' s my "peacock" net. Nets can save you a lot of running around!

Edit to add: I just had a thought, you might go to www.feathersite.com and look at the pics of Leghorn & cornish chicks on the poultry section & see if any of them look like yours.

They had three bins...first marked red pullets, second marked red pullets, third marked assorted bantams. When I inquired in the store about the obvious yellow chics being marked as red pullets...they said....nope those are white pullets. So....hoping they are pullets regardless of breed and someone just messed up the sign. The assorted bantams looked a lot like chipmunks and I was told their bin was the only one of the three that was straight run. By the time I was done looking in the other two bins....someone had bought all the straight run bantams.
Anyway...I loaded a pic of when they were between 3-5 days old(the day we got them). I hope to load a pic of them from today in a little bit.
