Hope everyone else is doing alright!!

Hi everyone! Do any of you keep goats? I'm trying to figure out a way to clear my land of blackberries (Dewberries) with goats, and having a tough time figuring out the fence.

Have a bug of some sort , and it gave me 'rear glaucoma' (couldn't see my butt going in to work today)

Also, is it normal for 19 chicks (two weeks old) to eat nearly 2 quarts of food per day?

I know an excellent Labrador breeder... in Virginia. They do not ship puppies. However, they bred and preliminary-trained my son's service dog. She is wonderful!

Thank you Missi. Each day brings some improvement. We had a bit of a laugh with my son this week. He and his wife have a daughter that is 11 years old, and a son that just turned 1 yr. old in March. We were waging bets as to which one would walk first between my son and his baby boy. Well, the baby won -- he started walking this week. Now, we'll see if Dad can keep up with a walking toddler. That ought to be fun!

All I know about goats is that if you're not careful they'll end up climbing on the roof of someone's new car. We had goats for a short time when I was a kid and that's what happened to us. My dad was so embarrassed when we all walked out to admire his friends new car and found our four goats on the roof of the brand new car. Needless to say the goats had to find a new home.

Gosh, that rear glaucoma -- don't you hate it when that happens?

2 qts. of food does sound like a lot for 19 chicks. Are they spilling some onto the ground? They'll start to try to scratch the feed and will often end up dumping some on the ground by tipping the tray.

Howdy Missi!!! Glad to see ya!

Well I'm hatching out right now, BO, RIR, and EE.. got 5 out right now. My ducks that hatched out I got one Golden Layer and 6 mallards. I have Coronations and SLW's hatching out next week, as well as Khaki Campbells, Welsh Harlequins, Golden Layers, and more mallards.

I know I've been MIA for awhile!!

I went back to work on the 20th and they've just about kicked my butt everyday. SO many criminals in the world!! I had to ship my laptop out for them to fix my screen once again.

Got it back Good Friday and it crashed on me Sunday night.

I never made recovery disks for it so now I'm waiting on HP to send me the ones I ordered.

So I've been without a computer (and I HATE sitting at the desktop)

I have now offically moved all the chicks out of my house. I put my 7 week old & my 4 week old Speckled Sussex together and moved my 2 week olds outside in the big brooder!! It's been nice not having them in the house!!

I will admit I did something SO stupid that I swore I would never do and that's buy eggs off of eBay!! Well, this person had wonderful feedback 100% with one neutral over a year ago. I bought a dozen Golden Cuckoo Marans. Well, I can't even tell you what I received. Out of 8 chicks that hatched I know that 2 or 3 for sure are. But I have 3 or 4 that have a black wash down the front of their theirs and GCM legs are flesh/pinky color. I also have one that has feathers on it's legs. I'm going to contact her tonight and see if I can get to the bottom of it. Lesson learned here!!

Got burned on Ebay several years ago on eggs & never went back; be interesting to see what you find out-- I dont' know a thing about GCMs - maybe variety of colors is the norm? Hope you get your computer back up & running!

Paisaneaux-- the "near glaucoma" diagnosis was absolutely the LOL of our day! will keep that for further use here!

Baralek- good luck w/your hatch. We have friends w/goats; all I know is they get into everything & will eat truck upholsterly. I can probably get you a couple for free if you want to try them. I turned down that offer. I'll stick w/a hoe on our fence rows. Why don't you try geese? they are excellent weeders & much less trouble than goats!

Kuntrygirl how's your Tom Turkey doing? has his wry neck improved any? I think about him often.

Have NO idea how my 'bator eggs are doing- we tried to candle tonight & can't see a thing in those dark blue eggs & I was afraid to keep the lid open for long since I'm opening it 3 times a day to turn eggs, so....if I don't smell anything "off" - they stay like they are until they hatch, or don't hatch. I still am having wild swings of humidity & not happy about that.

Otherwise, all is well here & tomorrow plan to make some sourdough biscuits & cook some sausage & make some sausage-biscuits to take to work next week, since we never have time for a real breakfast here, & also bathe our rotten little dogs.

I posted on the La forum---I have extra time this next week so I'm going to go down & talk to the people at the LSU Exhibition center about a fall meet---- I guess they are the right people to start with? to contact? is everybody still wanting to have a fall meet? any input is appreciated!! Do we want to try & have a chicken show? or just a meet-and-greet-and-swap-meet? Please post your ideas on this so I have some idea what to ask for when I go talk to these people.

I want some geese for mowing, but there is a serious blackberry and brush problem @ my place.
I originally typed A n a l glaucoma, but byc edited it. See, watch: picky

It replaced it with Picky
