Here are updated pictures of my Saddleback Sebastopol hatched in March. At first, I wasn't sure what color she'd be. I thought she could have even been blue. But, she is a beautiful gray saddleback.

"Gabby" - hatched March 14, 2011

Gabby attempts to flap her "new" BIG wings but she is still quite ackward as opposed to flapping her little nubby wings a couple months ago.

I'm not 100% sure of the gender but my best guess from vent sexing is that she is a goose. Also, she always has something to say -- Isn't that just like a woman?

Gabby with her parents. Notice her size! Remember she won't be 2 months old until May 14. Their rapid growth can really catch you offguard if you didn't how how quickly geese grow.

And lastly, a picture of Gabby's mother - "Buffy". She is such a pretty little thing. Her buff color is somewhat faded right now but this fall she should get her rich butterscotch color again. Gabby's feathers on her back with continue to grow and will loosely drape her sides like those of her mother and father.

One interesting thing about this little gosling is that if I've made a mistake and SHE is really a HE; then, he would be a "split-to-buff" gander like my gray male and could produce female offspring in both gray and buff colors. Genetics are so facinating!

As of tomorrow, I will have doubled my flock. My husband is going to kill me.

And I did it wrong and did not keep them separate. I am just hoping for the best, knowing the risks and taking my chances. After seeing how mena my girls are to the newbies, I am glad I am expanding now. After this, no nbew ones. They will all go out together and we will start fresh in a few years.

I have added 3 Araconas, 1 golden laced wynadotte and a silver laced. Tomorrow, 2 more wyandottes and a Brahma.

I found a lady on Craigslist that lives in Loranger. She is moving cross country soon and has lots of farm stuff for sale; rainbow layer chicks, meat chicks, grown birds, golden retriever pups, rabbits, free kittens. Message me if anyone wants her info.

Amy, you'll be fine!

Gramby -- Gabby is SO gorgeous!!! I am so happy for you -- if I had the fenced in land again, I'd have geese in a heartbeat, & those are so so beautiful!!!! thank you for sharing your pics.

Happy Mother's Day to everybody--- because we are all "mothers" in some form or fashion w/all our kids- whether skin, fur or feathered.

Pleasant surprise for me tonight--went to turn my eggs & found 6 pipped & cheeping away at me!!! that wasn't supposed to happen until Tuesday-- I thought....

This in a $49 dollar styrofoam Hovnabator 1602 bator, hand-turned, since my auto-turner broke on me-- & every possible spike of temps & humidity these past 3 weeks -- I've gone from 97 to 102 temps, & from 26 to 60 humidity levels-- & in spite of it all---isn't Nature wonderful? In spite of everything, these small lives hung in there & are determined to hatch.
I am humbled.

Again, Happy Mother's Day to all of you. God Bless.

Let me know if the spray works and what the brand name is. I really haven't noticed my big girls or any of the chicks being bothered but my poor meaties have been catching hell!! (I processed them today so I don't have to worry about that anymore!)

Oh yea and I'm finished with hatching for the spring and wouldn't you know my giant cochin went broody!!

My tom is doing good. Although, he still has wry neck, he is just as sweet as he can be.

Glad to hear your tom's doing good! Hope you figure it out Julie!!

Kingsfarm - Good luck on all your broody hatches!!

Well, I no longer have a rooster with my big girls! Processed the last 2 along with my 5 meaties today! (One died Tuesday!) Hubby made one of thoses $6.00 pluckers that someone posted in the "Meat Bird" section. Still trying to figure out how he spent $30.00 on it.

But it worked really good. I'm going to weigh them tomorrow but my goodness they were some heavy little buggers!!

Wishing all you Mother's a wonderful and VERY Happy Mother's Day!!

I love the goose picture!

Ok, I have to admit and ask all of you...

I think silkies are so freaking creepy. They make me shudder every time I see one. Please say I am not alone.

Nope, you are definetly not alone!!

ETA: Though I have to admit. That member that dyed their white one pink for a friends wedding.. Well, it was one of the cutest things I've seen.
