Yes, I know exactly where that is.

I love Wyandottes. Good choice!!! Post pics when you get your new babies.

Yep. my Wyandottes are good layers!!

Plus they're beautiful eye candy chickens!
I'd have some if I didn't have so many other breeds. I really really need to stop at some point. As soon as I hatch these Welsummers.

I swear these chicks are trying to keep me on my toes! I think they have a sixth sense. Anyhow...so the problem was, I pulled out a blue hen to mate with the black roo that I have...to get some nice blacks in there and hopefully some dark blues for my customers. Great, right? Wrong! When I pulled her out, two of my splashes that are in with a blue roo, decided to go broody. Which meant I was down to my blue/black combo and a splash/blue combo. So, two eggs a day from them. UGH! That's no way to help me sell their babies. Anyhow, finally broke the two hens from their broodiness (is that even a word?). They've been off the nest for about two weeks now, just waiting for them to begin to lay in full swing. Here's where the problem lies---the hen that I have over the black roo decided she doesn't want to lay eggs right now!! *sigh* I went from a measly two eggs a day, now I'm down to one every other day.

I should just make the nests off limits to kick those hens out of this crud! Boy I'll be glad when my youngins can lay so if one or two go broody, I won't mind as much.

Hi ShdyLdy! Yes, chickens a so addictive!! I wanted 4... I have 16. And I am researching meat birds. Lol. They a fun! barred Ocks are good layers. They are my friendliest birds and they are pretty.

I have a question: who cans? I have fallen in love with canning and pickling. The pressure canner arrived today. Hope to put up some green beans soon. Anyone have experiences to share or a great recipe?

Tooth still hurlers. Dentist tried to drain it today but the novocane shots were too painful. He said he has never seen someone have such a bad reaction and no pain relief. And I found out today that laughing gas doesn't do much for me. This should be a fun week.

Funny you should ask about canning today. I pickled green beans, okra, and cucumbers today and just finished peeling and cutting 30 pounds of carrots to pickle tomorrow. I have more carrots that I'm thinking of pressure canning, but I may have to buy more jars. lol

Quick question for everyone: I have TONS of carrot peels now, I'm going to send most of them across the road to a friend for her compost, but I was thinking my chicks might want some. They are 11 weeks old. Do y'all think they'd like them? And would I have to give them grit too? I have a little chick grit around here somewhere.
