Well, it's been a good day so far. First I got the call saying my laptop was being shipped back to me today!!
woot.gif
Let's just hope it's fixed!! Then I posted an ad on CL at 2 am this morning for 9 free roosters. Well just got rid of them so thank goodness that's 9 less mouths to feed.

and then later I get to meet Harry aka Chickenguru. Now if the next 2 nights at work goes this smoothly...

Maybe I shouldn't say that, cause usually it backfires on me!!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

I will definitely keep CL in mind for all my extra roos! isn't it awful to have to do w/o our 'puters?

I meant to say, my Wellies aren't "rocking" as in fixing to hatch. I just put them in the 'bator yesterday. But I'm very excited about them!

And yes it's been horrible without mine!! I have been using hubbys though but it sure is a pain when I don't have access to "my" stuff!!!

ETA: BTW louisianachickens.com is back up and running!! Thanks Joe!!

I see you are looking for a farm to visit. If you can give me a day or two I can set something up for you if you will be able to come up
our way to Kentwood. I was raised up on a dairy farm. Dad sold out when I was a kid but once I got into high school I started working on
dairy farms for neighbors and then after I got married I worked on a few local dairies as a herdsman for about 15 years. The guys I used to
work for are all still very good friends and I can talk to them and we can go look at the cows and baby calves. I have another neighbor
with sheep, donkies, and beef cattle. Then of course I have chickens, chicks, baby turkeys, and ducks. You could even make the trip up to Kentwood Saturday morning and make a trip to the stockyard where there will be people selling all types of poultry and rabbits outside of the sale barn.
I am tied up for a day or so trying to wrap up some business but send me a message if you want to come up and when and I will make
myself available that day.

How many silkies are you looking for? I don't have any right now but may be able to get a fewin a couple of days. Are you after any
particular colors? They will probably be straight run and it may be to where all I can get my hand on would be silkie chicks. I can find out
and let you know if you want me to.

Missi,
It was nice meeting you today. We finally made it down to where we have to go to in the morning and
when my daughter saw just how high the river is she kinda freaked out. Looks a bit different when
you see it in person vs on the news.
The place we have to be is only about 4 blocks from the levee so she is more nervous about that
than she is about the meeting in the morning. She said she can handle a roomful of lawyers with
no problem but can't handle the though of the river so high and us being so close to it.
As far as your work the next two nights, at least it's not a full moon.

Hope everyone is having a good day so far. The weather is nice today. It's baseball season again, so I will be at the baseball park for at least 2 hours a couple times a week watching neices and nephews play baseball. I love to see the kids play sports. I look forward to it. All of the kids out there seem to have so much fun.

I received some bad news today from the feed mill that I purchase my feed from. For some reason, they will not be able to carry the feed that they were selling. The place that they were getting the feed from was having problems with "something". They were very vague on the reason. So now I am having to call around to find out if there are any other local feed mills that sell feed in bulk. When I went to this particular feed store, I would buy about 2 tons of feed for less than $200.00 and this would last a long time feeding almost 200 animals (including sheep and goat). The feed per bag averaged $6.00 per 50lb bag. I don't think that I will be able to find feed at that cost. There is a feed store near Lafayette that said that 1 ton of chicken feed would be $660.00. I almost choked when he said that. The feed consists of Alfalfa, Corn, Milo, Wheat, Pellets and BOSS and it's 16% protein. It averages about $15.00 per 50lb bag. For that amount, I can buy feed at TSC. If any of you know of any feed stores or mills that sell chicken feed in bulk in Louisiana, please let me know. I am having panic attacks again.

I'm trying to breath in and out - in and out-. *sigh*

Well on to other news. I have had about 4 new chicks to hatch on yesterday. One of the chick's leg has a problem. I have it taped with a bandaid as if it has spraddle leg but I don't think that is is spraddle leg. The toes are curled up. I got some ideas from a couple of people on the turkey thread on how to straighten the toes and tape them in a straight position. I will try this when I get home this evening. Here is a pic of my little chick.

You would think that we chicken owners would be accustomed to problems but we never are. Every problem seems just as bad as the last problem. I can only wish for a problem free summer. Oh well.

And to top it all off, I was summoned by the court for jury duty.

Have a good day everyone!!!!!!!

Golly Kuntrygirl, I'd say so far your day is kinda sucky!
I think the chick's foot might straighten out -- I had one like that & I did the bandaid thing & it came out pretty straight. Doesn't hurt to try!

Petrus Feed & Seed here mills their own feed - give them a call & talk to Greg Petrus about it. 318-442-2325. There's also a Nutrena feed mill in between Alexandria & Lecompte. I don't think they do direct sales to the public or not, but their phone number is 318-776-9361.

Enjoy the softball games! I will be up to my eyeballs in green beans this evening, processing for the freezer.
