"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Hey Julie! I have had plenty of chicks and even geese that have the curled toes. We usually cut a small piece of thin cardboard (think of cereal box thickness), spread the toes out on this cardboard "shoe", and tape the toes down. It usually only takes about 12 hours or so to straighten them out.

I did end up having a gosling hatch that had both legs stuck out to the back like that. We tried all kinds of things to get the legs into a usable position, but nothing worked. We had to cull the little guy

I don't think it was spraddle leg though. Some other kind of deformity

Good luck on the food hunt. I will hopefully be able to buy feed in bulk once we get moved. Feed prices are OUTRAGEOUS right now!

Thanks Gracie. The cardboard shoe worked. She is doing just fine. Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry to hear that you had to cull your baby.

If you find a good place to buy in bulk, please let me know. I'm still looking.

I need to process 8 roosters. Not a big deal but I smashed my pinky while roofing the chicken house today. OUCH!! I am going to lose the nail at the very least. Hopefully it will stop bleeding and I will be able to process them before I go back to work Friday. The meat is protruding out of the end of the finger. I really smashed it good.

The fingernail is black today and it really hurts to type the letter A. Its just my pinky. Thanks so much for the concern though. I will be out later today to finish up that roof. Pictures will be coming soon of the chicken house.

Ouch! I hate to lost a nail - & then you're six months growing it back!

Got all my chickens moved around yesterday & re-settled in new locations. Put up 12 quarts of snap beans & one unruly rooster so it was a profitable weekend!
