"Louisiana "La-yers" Peeps"

Good morning everyone. Well, we sure did get a lot of rain yesterday. We all needed it. The chicken yard is a mess. I wasn't able to do all the chores yesterday because it wouldn't stop raining . Every time I went out to start on the chores and pick eggs, it started raining. So, I had to run for cover and then try to do as much as I could in the rain. I was able to fill up all of the feeders that were in the brooders. I tried to finish up this morning with the other feeders. It looks like more rain today.

Have a good day everyone.

PS. For some reason, I dreamed about pies and figs last night. Wonder why.

Good morning! We got 4 1/2 inches of rain & a MAJOR MAJOR mess! one of our biggest old pecan trees split in half & naturally fell across the main coop & run --- it was so big, so many branches, that we had to drag limbs -- in the rain -- away to even reach the door of my coop!! part of the fence is smashed, & had to drag yet more limbs around to make a path to the peacocks so I could feed them.

You literally cannot walk around in the back of the run right now. Another part of the tree fell into the tree next to it so is lodged firmly - that's going to take a cherry-picker or *expensive* tree service to get that part down.

Plus, that was one of our best bearing pecan trees - it was a Stuart my grandfather planted about 100 years ago.

The chickens all LOVE all the mess; they are having a blast wandering around this forest which suddenly bloomed in their run!

Terri, sorry to hear about the pecan tree. 100 years old? WOW!!! I hope that you all and the chickens are ok over there.
Well, let's put out in the universe that nothing else will go wrong.

Sounds like you have a lot of fixing up to do around there. Holler if you need any help.

Thanks for the warm welcome . Nice to see so many replies . ayeupchuck I am from east side of houma and went to STHS. I live on Bayou Blue now , on the Bourg side.and in Lafouche Parish .Also nice case for incubator , make sure to drill some small holes in the thermostat to let it regulate faster .

Rrrrrr stupid baby monitors. They magnifiy sounds way to much. I moved one of my roos to a new spot where I havent had any before. Right in front of my shop, and there isnt anything between my shop and house so any noise between there echos. He normaly crows between 6:00 and 6:30, 5:30 thismorning. Dont get me wrong I love the sound of a rooster early in the morning even if Im still in bed. But not that loud.

Here's one of the pics of the storm damage in front of the coop. There's a LOT more tree and branches down that are out of sight of this picture. This was taken after we pulled these branches back from the door so I could get in & check the chickens & peas & feed them.
and yes, of course it fell across one of my "poultry pools" and smashed a hole in it.

I am so frustrated. The insurance company doesn't seem to think they can provide any support to a tree that "just fell down"-- even though it "just fell down" across my fence & poultry coop!!! and it is an income - bearing tree - we sell the pecans we gather from our trees every year!
Why are we paying these people a good chunk of our income every month when they won't come through & help when we need it?

Thank you for listening and now back to our regular programming...

Don't forget to save that wood for the fireplace and chimnea. It also is excellant for smoking with. Im sorry that it happened. I had 3 large 50 yr old pecan trees cut down because one of them split and fell on my shop. It costed $2000 dollars to cut those trees down and have the stumps ground.
