These are considered pied or white head. Generally all pieds have black on the head also but muscovy come in so many color variations that some dont really have a dead set color name lol

And I will pass on the figs

Ok I will try and explain pied versus mutts.

Chicken peeps call mixed color chickens mutts mainly because chickens dont generally throw off colors unless bred with a completely different breed of chicken.
Ducks and peafowl can and do throw off colors when bred within the same breed. Make sense

Now IMO its because we who have ducks and peafowl LOVE ours to much to call em a MUTT

Hubby JUST got home from bumflat(Canoe,AL).Took 3 hours to get there, chased a 500 pound hog around and tore stuff up,then headed home. The driver doing about 60 the whole way there and back. Just for info.... Cano,AL is up OVER Florida. And hubby didn't know where they were going when he agreed last night...lol....

Thanks for the explanation.

So now can you explain why ducks, geese and peas are called "pied" and chickens are called "mutts" if they are "mixed' with another color/breed?
gig.gif
Wouldn't ducks, geese and peas be mutts as well?
gig.gif
just kidding

Ok...So everyone is talking pied,pies,figs,jelly,peas.....So I'm trying to figure what kind of peas ur calling pied. Like purple hull, black eyed, english....Then I get a DUH

moment and realize... PeaFOWL.... geez...maybe lounging on the couch fried my brain...lol... Speaking of pies... Think I am gonna do a banana cream pie for desert to go with the old fashioned beef stew for dinner.Last night I did this awesome strawberry cake thingy. butter cake on bottom, layer of banana pudding, sliced strawberries and whipped cream, then another butter cake on top.Covered the top with whip cream and sliced and whole strawberrries... I think I ate most of it...lol...

I agree -- all of the pie talk you all have done today has me thinking pie, too. I'm having chicken pot pie but not homemade with fresh chicken -- YET!

Some of you people got a LOT of rain. Hope you're not getting flooded.

Ok, so I want to try my hand at hatching. I have started on building a "brooder/bator" out of an entertainment center. I have everything done except I need to put the light in it, I already have it wired to a hot water heater thermostat, I just need to put it in. The side with the glass, where you put dvd's is going to be the incubator. The spot for the tv will get a "door" added that will either be plexiglas or hardware cloth on a frame made out of 1x1's

Heres a few pics

The only materials I bought: foil insulation $14, hot water heater thermostat $11, and a bottle lamp kit $3

Here she is... Imagine it with a plywood back, and laying flat

I recycled the plywood, I had it lying around

Here it is from the front

After I lined it with foil insulation

So what do you guys think? And also, do you know any where that has cheap egg turners? EBay is so expensive after you add shipping, and TSC is around $45. Any feedback is welcomed
