When you got out, just go to the local pharmacies, they give them for FREE. You don't have to buy one. Just tell them what you need it for and they will be MORE than happy to help you out with your animals. One pharmacist felt so sorry for me, that she gave me a box of BIG syringes (without the needle). She was so amazed that someone was looking for something to give water to a turkey. She told me to come back anytime to get supplies and she would give them to me for free.

Sounds like you are done everything for them that you can. Nothing else to do but wait for the state to contact you. Everything will be ok.

My 2 adult pairs of sebbies lived together this spring. There were 3 whites, and a splash. I got whites, splash, and saddlebacks from them. The colors will surprise you!

Post some pictures of them. I'd love to see them.

Well this is the only current picture I have of them, and it's terrible! They are wet, muddy, and in molt. I can't think of a worse combination! It was taken last week after a good rain storm. I brought the whole flock a treat of chicken scratch which they devoured. My splash gander is smooth breasted and really nice looking. My curly breasted gander is going to be retired this year. I think I have enough ganders to replace him that are better stock. He is a great pet though, so we won't be getting rid of him. I would still like to find one more colored gander for next breeding season so we will see how it goes. The gosling with them is a little gander, so hopefully he will fill out nicely. He was my last one to hatch.

I believe I emailed you some pics of the youngsters last month Twiley. I need to get some updated ones. Two of the youngsters are not very happy with me right now after I taped their wings. They started looking like they wanted to get angel wing, so they are running around in pink zebra vet wrap

I have a couple of really nice blue females that I am excited about. I can't wait to see how they fill out this fall.

If anyone has a male pygmy goat for sale, let me know. Someone contacted me that will be buying some of my muscovy ducks and asked if I had a pygmy goat for sale, which I don't. I told them that I would ask around. Thanks ya'll!

Ok everyone, I need your opinions on this one here.......

Remember the chocolate muscovy duck that "showed up" on my property? Well, I placed an ad looking for the owner. I didn't say what type of farm animal that showed up at my place because I didn't want a slew of people contacting me and "claiming" that it was there animal just to get a free duck. So, I just said that a farm animal showed up at my place and if anyone had any missing animals, to contact me and tell me what kind of animal was missing and a description. Well, I got an email from someone. Here it is below.

Hello,
The animal that showed up at your place isn't mine, but I wanted to let you know that about a month ago a lamb showed up at one of my neighbor's house. I put an ad on here and a few people replied saying that goats, sheep, lambs, and even a couple of calves have been found wandering in the same area.
I don't know if you are in this area, but that is where it is happening. I rescue animals (a horse, some goats, the lamb, a couple of turkeys, and some geese so far, lol). I rescue other types of animals also such as squirrels, rabbits, and other wild critters. So, if you do not find the owner and need to find a home for the one that showed up at you place please email me and let me know. None of the animals on my property get eaten. They live there until they die or I find a better home for them. I have 5 acres, plus the surrounding land that is owned by my family.
Sincerely,

So, after I got this email, I wrote her back and asked her if I could do a "home visit" to check out her place to make sure that she was set up to house this particular animal in the event I do not find this animal's owner and I have to re-home it. I WILL NOT give this duck to someone who is not set up to care for it. So this is the email that I received back from her.

Hello,
I have rehomed a bull calf(Dozey), pig(Oscar), rabbits, and numerous cats and dogs. I only rehome an animal to people I know or that a good friend knows. And only if they agree to return it to me if there are any problems.
I am not living at my farm yet, the electrician we hired ripped us off. My friend and I are out there every day, if not all day then a few times a day. The majority of the fencing is 5 strand hot wire. Eventually other sections are going to be fenced with red-top fencing. There is one horse, 20 pygmy goats, 1 lamb, 5 geese, 1 mallard, 2 turkeys, and 9 chickens at my farm. All but the chickens roam the pastures. My 2 turkeys are toms, but one is having an identity/gender crisis right now( he is setting goose eggs, lol). All of my critters get fed morning and night. We keep 2 large round bales of hay available for them at all times. We have a small pond that we are digging deeper. They get fresh water every day to every other day. I have a farrier that comes out every 5 - 6 weeks. I do not have a farm animal vet at this time because the one I used passed away recently.
I have bottle fed numerous animals successfully, ranging from squirrels to the bull calf. I have 2 squirrels that are going to be released at my farm after hurricane season is over.
My dogs and cats either get along with all the other animals or ignore them. I have 3 cats, one that plays with the goats and 2 that ignore them. I have 3 dogs, 2 that play with all the animals(or try to,lol) and one that pretends they aren't around him.
I cannot think of anything else to tell you, lol. So if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I also have pictures.

When I read that she does not live on this "farm" and she goes out there every day and perhaps a few times a day, this worried me. Now don't get me wrong, I know that people do have farms/property where they have animals and they don't actually live on the property, so this is not unusual.

What do you all think about re-homing this duck somewhere as the place described above where no one will be out there every day to keep watch but says they go out to water and feed daily?

I would just keep the duck if I where you, HA. He is cool as heck anyway.

My animals are not kept at my house either, they are kept at my stepdad's house until we get our barn built at our property. The fact that she doesn't live there doesn't exactly bother me, but the fact that all she has to keep the animals in is 5 string hotwire is a real issue to me!

I think many people keep animals at a separate property, but you have to have some way of keeping your animals in and unwanted ones out. That doesn't exactly sound safe for keeping birds IMO

X2 lol or I'd take him hahaha hubby might kill me tho and I saw ur add lol

Cadjien_De_Louisiane, yea he is pretty cool looking. He is a handsome boy. If I kept him, I have to get the state vet out to test him so that I am in compliance with NPIP rules.

Gracie9205, yea I thought about the wire as well. 5 strands? No way. As far as her not living on the property, I totally understand that because lots of people are set up that way and it works. I have to agree with you in that it doesn't sound safe. She mentioned that the electrician ripped them off, so I'm wondering how the hot wire is kept "hot". My first hot wire (for myhogs) was solar, so she may have solar as well to keep the wire hot. However, I would NEVER have WIRE for chickens, ducks, etc. She said that the "Majority" of the fencing is hot wire. What about the other part? There was no mention of chicken house, pen, etc. either. What gives?

bhazell123, you saw my ad? Not many details about the animal huh?

Yea, I didn't want people just looking for FREE animals to contact me. The way I worded it helped A LOT. Only got 1 email about it and that was from this lady.
gig.gif
And don't tempt me, I may let you have it if the owner doesn't step forward soon. Goodness knows, that I don't need any more animals.

She sounds like she means well, but I just don't think it is in the best interest of your lovely scovie! Let me know if you don't find his owner. I have a friend who has a huge duck pond, and I'm sure she would love to have him. She takes good care of her birds. People always laugh at us for taking scraps from parties to bring home to them
